Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

10 years ago 0 234 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey Camiol,

things are going well over here.  I am coaching a house league little leage baseball team and I have recently been selected to coach a competetive travelling team.  Pretty cool feeling.  I'm not completely clean and sober, but I am not neglecting daily activities (work, chores, seeing friends).  Family life has improved as well.

I personally just don't have time to drink due to my busy schedule of coaching baseball, guitar/drum lessons and newly added piano lessons.  Also, if I was going to show up to the baseball diamond drunk, or skipped a game to drink, I myself would class myself as a big jerk.

I am enjoying volunteering my time and the amount of effort I am putting in.  I am getting a lot of really good feed back.

".....thanks for taking the time you do a great job keep up the good work the kids need that"

Still a single bachelor, but I've shifted my focus and accept the fact that things will happen, when they are ready.

Hi Camiol,

Great to hear from you. Great news about the job prospects! Keep us posted - it sounds like a perfect fit, meant to be even....but we will save the celebrating for when you get the job.

Looking forward to hearing more.

Hi gang...where is everyone?  We all seem to have slacked off on posting and checking in.  I hope you are all doing well.  I'm still holding up pretty good.  I am still moderating and feel good about it.

A couple job opportunities have come up in the past week that are in my field of work.  I applied for both and feel positive that I have a good shot at either one.  The one I really want is within the same type of industry that I work and they use the same software that we do.  In fact the company I work for, and the one I'm hoping to work for are the only two in my city that use the software programs that I am highly skilled in.  I hope that gives me a huge jump on the job.  I plan to go back to work June 3rd and I'm praying it'll only be for a week or two before I resign.  The sooner the better.

Anyway that's my update.  I hope to see posts from all of you very soon.  Hugs to all.

Hi everyone and welcome to Mandii85.  My apologies for not posting lately.  I literally forgot to check in.  I'm definitely having some sort of brain fog happening lately.  I'm doing ok Turquoise, I've been moderately drinking, I did have one night where I had a bit too much but I didn't go way overboard.  Things are a bit crazy for me, it seems Im constantly running here and there.  I'm sure I'm busier now that I'm off work.  Speaking of which, I suspect I'm going to be forced back to work by the end of this month and I'm seriously stressed about it.  I literally feel sick to my stomach. I'm still not feeling well enough to work yet this disability management company thinks I should return to work.  My doctors note says I cannot work...period.  However the doctors word isn't gospel anymore apparently.  What a load of crap.  I've been doing physio and we discovered I'm having balance issues....it's neurological.  My therapist is going to send a note to my dr to tell her I definitely need to see another neurologist.  I'm also hoping he will support me in staying off work longer to heal more.  In the meantime I'm looking very hard for a new job and hoping something will come up before the end of this month.  Keep your fingers crossed for me.

How is everyone doing?  Turquoise it seems that you're doing great.  Don't fret about the weight gain, you'll take it off again I'm sure.  I'm also in the same boat, I am not happy at all with my weight.  I have been trying to eat healthier and less calories but it's not helping.  I bought a juicer and have been making fresh juice as meal replacements with flax added to it.  I need to exercise but right now I really can't which is very frustrating.  I thought maybe I could get on the home gym and even do some light weight leg curls and arm presses.  Maybe that'd be ok.  I think I will give it a try.

Keep up the great work everyone, and again I'm sorry for not checking in sooner.

Mandii85, keeping alcohol out of the house is the first best step you can take. I am so sorry to hear about your miscarriage and the results. I had four miscarriages by the time I was 40, and it definitely didn't help with the drinking urges.... I am so proud of you for taking the step to join this site, and getting your family to support you. My biggest suggestions are doing exactly what you are doing -- no alcohol in the house, and being honest. Also, the tools on this site are great -- particularly the drinking diary to keep track of your alcohol use (abuse). Good luck and welcome.

My H is out of town, and I am struggling to not finish the bottle of wine that is leftover in the house. Sigh. Not sure I will make it, but at least I have spread it out over six hours and dinner. Rationalizations -- I'm good at those.... I think we all are. I hope to keep alcohol out of the house for the rest of the time he is gone.

Camiol, how are you doing? ElizabethRRR? PJ? Saddie? George? marylizy? I know I've had my weeks where I didn't check in, but I do miss you all. I hope everyone is doing well....

Hi all,
So i am new to this forum i was on the fence about whether to abstain or learn moderation. I am very lucky that my family is here to support me. I have made a decision with my husband not to have alcohol in the house because that is a weakness to over drink.  So i am trying to only have a drink or two in social settings and i did that this past weekend.  It was a rough weekend as it was 6years since my cousin was killed in a car accident and it was also the first baby shower i have been to since my ectopic, misscarriage and ultimately finding out i cannot have children at all.  Normally all this stress would cause me to go buy a bottle of whiskey and drown my sadness but i choose to feel my feelings and just had a 3 drinks all day at the baby shower(it was a bbq jack n jill).  Any suggestions on keeping myself on the road to moderation?  I have been reading this forum and its very helpful.  Sorry for all the back story was just happy i dealt in a good way this weekend.  Hopefully its the first step in the right direction. Hope everyone had a good weekend and i appreciate any help a d encouragement!

Elizabethrrr, how are you? I've had such a hard time checking in here, because I'm too busy. It's been stressing me out so much that I've gained some weight, which I hate.... My current deadline at work of course coincides with the kids' last couple of weeks of school, and my husband is out of town on business. Yikes. But my drinking has actually been going really well. As long as I keep it out of the house, I'm fine. That is the single most important thing for me. Anyway, how is everyone else doing?

Hi Cam, Turq, good to see you are doing so well.

So my drinking has increased a bit, I still haven't been drunk but because the weather is really nice I'm drinking beer in the afternoon.  The last two days I've had 7 beer....four on Tuesday and three yesterday.  I'm doing my best to avoid wine because there is no control when I drink it, but so far I'm able to control the beer because its very filling.

I hope everyone is doing well.

I've been doing pretty well, just so very busy. I'll be glad when school is out for the kids. I've been drinking about twice a week, never at home, and generally 2 drinks. As Camiol said, I have no illusions that this is "the new me" but it doesn't feel out of control at the moment.... Camiol, you need to follow up with whatever it takes. Life is way too short to spend the rest of it in pain!
