Moderation Gang (MoGa) - an ongoing discussion of moderate drinking

10 years ago 0 616 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi ElizabethRRRR it's great to see you back on the site.  I hope that the new outlook on things will really help you and your husband get to the place where you both want to be.  I hope all my other moga friends are doing well.  Turquoise I miss your posts, I hope to see you you post something soon.  Marylizy how are you doing?  I miss your posts too.  Hope it was nice to see you here again, I hope that you are doing well and please let us know soon how things are going.

I've been doing very well with moderation.   I've been doing well with moderation since my stupid night on the yacht when I got way too drunk and drove home.  I haven't been drunk since then and it feels good.  I have a couple drinks a night and really....I don't feel like drinking any more than that.

I have some good news.  Today I got called for two different job interviews.  One is scheduled for Wednesday.  It's at a local nursing home working in administration.  I'm not sure about that one, but it might be a good job.  The other is pretty much the same job I do now but it's for a division of the provincial govt and the pay is very close to what I make now.  Either way, I want out of the place I work now and I'm praying that one of them works out for me.  I'm off til July 10 from my current job and I would love it if I didn't go back at all.  Keep your fingers crossed for me and send good vibes.

Hi everyone. I have not posted because I have not been moderating. My husband and I are committed to finding our way back this summer. We are now exercising and thinking positively... but it is a slow road back with alcohol. It has been a difficult spring for us both at work and with my husband losing his best friend a year ago. I think having our heads in a better place is a big step and being active helps.

Yes I'm doing physiotherapy, but so far I'm not getting a whole lot of relief.  I do have some decent days but like today, I have some pretty bad ones too where I'm in a lot of pain.

I also drank way too much his weekend....I mean I got hammered on Saturday.  My husband and I were invited to cruise on my BFF's boyfriends yacht.  We ended up hooking up with a couple other yachts in a bay, anchored there and started yacht hopping and drinking.  Before I knew it I was really drunk.  My only big regret is that I was stupid and drove and what made it even worse is I had my daughter in the car.  I'm so damn lucky I didn't get pulled over and charged with impaired, but I felt horrible the next day for putting all of us at risk.  I will NEVER EVER drink and drive again.

Camiol, I'm glad to hear you have another month before you have to go back. Are you doing any physical therapy? I drank a lot over the weekend -- yikes. It's a stress thing, because I have too much going on. I'm going to start posting in my drinking diary again before this gets out of control. And now I have to run to work....

Turquoise I'm so glad you posted.  No I'm not back at work yet, I actually saw my dr. Yesterday and she is keeping me off work til July 10 because my back isn't doing so great.  I sent an email to my supervisor and manager to let them know what's going on and neither one of them responded.  I think that says it all doesn't it?  This is the type of management team I have....totally lacking any humanity skills.  Whatever, I hope I have a new job before  I have to go back to that awful place. It would make my day to resign while I'm off on disability.  Jerks.  As for the MS, the MRI came back negative but my doctor agrees that MS does not always show up on a scan and it's very difficult to diagnose.  Se is referring me to another neurologist and hopefully I'll get some answers.  For now, she has me on medication for the nerve pain and it does help.  I'm still doing ok with moderation.  I found a new low calorie, low alcohol wine which I'm enjoying.  It's only 80 calories per serving.  It's nice to enjoy wine without getting drunk on the first glass.

It sounds like you're so darn busy lately...how do you keep up?  As for your daughter, I'll be thinking about her and sending positive vibes your way.  I pray it all goes well.  I didn't know you were an author....that's wonderful.  What kind of books do you write, I understand if you'd rather not say for fear of revealing your true name.

Hope have you been checking in with us?  I hope to hear from you again soon.  We missed you a lot.

Hang tough everyone.

Hi everyone! I have been so busy.... The kids just got out of school for the summer, and the babysitting situation is shaky.  My architecture firm has a huge deadline on June 14, my son's bday is June 15, I'm going out of town for a week on June 17. Day after tomorrow my 7yo daughter has an MRI for migraine & vision issues, and I'm really scared about that. On the other hand, I've finally submitted another full manuscript to an agent who is very interested in it!! It's been a couple of years since I made any money on my novels, and I am so ready to get going again.... So, things are good. Lately I'm drinking about 1/2 bottle of wine, about 3 or 4 times a week. Not perfect, but not bad. I have been terrible about keeping track of it in the Drinking Diary -- gotta get on that -- but I'm not waking up feeling bad about myself. Anyway, it's late, but I wanted to check in.

Hope, it is so good to hear from you again. We have missed you, and I'm glad you are posting again. Rob9, you too... And PJ, you sound like you are really settling into some good, constructive things in your life.

Camiol -- you're not back at work, are you? I hope you can heal for a bit longer. You stay adamant about letting yourself heal!!! Keep on the doctors to stay on your side. I've been so scattered about coming to the site -- did you ever hear any results on the MS? Or is it just some vague neurological thing? I can tell you a little bit about neurological problems -- I have RLS, which is related to Parkinsons, and it wreaks havoc with my sleep...... Hmm, maybe that's why I self-medicated for years?

Hope,

I am very interested to read you post.  I also left secure employment to start up my own business, with things going much slower then expected.  After being off drink for a period of 6 months I started drinking again in Feb (survived xmas and slipped when the pressure was off).  I have had a roller coaster ride since then.  One thing I have realised, for me, it is a clear choice, either I give up drinking or the business fails.  This helps motivate me while I try and lift out of this drinking addiction.

I hope you find what you are looking for.

Welcome back Hope!

Very sorry to hear about all the stress you have been under. We will help you get back to where you want to be.

The word try was used when referring to your goal with alcohol. I might be wrong here but try can imply some ambivalence to the change. This is completely normal but it is hard to make a change stick if there is ambivalence. To help move forward I have some questions for you:

What is your end goal to moderate or completely abstain?
When do you want to achieve this goal by?
On a scale of 1-10 how motivated are you to make this change?
On a scale of 1-10 how confident are you in your ability to make the change?
What are the pros of you making this change?
What are the pros of continuing to drink as you are now?

Take some time to mull these questions over and please answer if you feel comfortable.

Hope it's wonderful to see you back here!!!!!  I've often thought about you and wondered how you are doing.  It sounds like you have had a lot of changes in your life. I believe everything happens for a reason and it's always for the better so keep your chin up, I think things will work out for you.  I've been off work for a couple months now and trying to find a new job.  I get a horrible sense if dread at even the thought if having to go back there.  I've been off work for back pain and some neurological issues that need testing.  I'm so glad you've decided to come back, I hope we see more posts from you very soon.

PJ you're doing an awesome thing by coaching baseball, and good on you for being asked to coach a competitive travelling team!  You must have some great skills and an excellent rapport with the kids.  It seems that although your not totally sober, you're in control and that's what matters right?

Turquoise are you doing ok?  I miss hearing from you.  I'd love to see an update soon.  I'm going to the doctor tomorrow for a follow up check up, Im hoping she will keep me off work longer, at least until I know whether or not I will get one of the jobs I applied for.

Marylizy it's been a while since we've heard from you.  Are you doing ok?  Would love to see an update from you.

I hope that everyone is doing well....keep posting.

Hello everybody,
after more than 6 months I'm back here.
Since that time, I quit my job, started my own business, and travelling a lot. Unfortunately things are not going as planned and we havent made any contracts since the beginning. As you can imagine, this makes me stressed and drink more than ever.

Now I will try to stick here to make another try.

Hope
