Many thanks Josie. I have a high risk situation tonight with dinner at a restaurant for a friend's birthday with a large number of people, but I think I understand the trigger there and aim to be prepared with my coping plan. See how I go!
It's so good to be able to share my experiences and thoughts with others who are in the same boat.
And you're right, my actual goal is to keep saying no :)
Welcome and thank you for your honesty. As you can see the members do know where you are coming from and they can guide you with knowledge and support.
Good for you for looking through the program and becoming prepared. If your goal is to keep saying no, then stick with it, sobriety can bring clarity and you will be able to realize triggers as well. Be ready with coping mechanisms and ask questions. We are here to help you, so post often.
Thank you for the kind thoughts Jessica. I feel stronger each day yet in some ways less certain about keeping it up. I lost it today a couple of times in a weird way for me - intensely overreacted to a couple of incidents. I tried the breathing technique the 2nd time which helped. Long way to go. One step at a time.
Hi there. I've just discovered your site while looking for online help. I'm at day 8 of abstaining and while my goal is to get to a point where I can enjoy a couple of drinks here and there, I don't feel like I'm anywhere near that at the moment. Having undertaken the "Do I drink too much" questionnaire, I realise I'm in the very high risk group. However, I feel the best I can do at this stage is to keep saying "no" and hope for the best.
I know that's not a good strategy, so I'm prepared to work through the material on the site and link up with others who are in similar positions. Good luck to everyone!
