Hi Yamaha,

Welcome to the group. Good for you for taking action right away! That takes strength and smarts! It is clear you have learned a lot from your past experiences.

I encourage you to create your own introduction thread to be sure other members don't miss your intro in this thread.

Hope to read more from you soon!

Hi I'm Yamaha

New to this group but not new to drinking.
Detoxed in 2002, relapsed in 2010 for 3 months but have been clean up until last week.
Went out west last saturday, first time since my father in law died out there landed drove to a liquor store and bought a small bottle (3 drinks)
I have repeated this everyday since.
Planning on stopping tomorrow.
I know where this is going if I don't.

Welcome Jess,

You have come to the right place. You are not alone in this.  You CAN quit drinking! It takes preparation, support and heard work but you can get there. Begin by reading through the program and support group. Start to make a plan for yourself and for each small success reward yourself.

How are you feeling today? What do you think your next step should be?

Hi Jess,

I'm pretty new to this group too.  I understand how hard it is to admit that you might need help managing your relationship with alcohol.  I'm just starting to get used to the idea that alcohol, is not my friend.

You have come to the right place if you are looking for support, and kind words from people who really understand what you are feeling.  Welcome to the group, I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Welcome Jess,
I could relate to what you said. We are weak willed when it comes to alcohol. I used to promise myself not to drink that day when I wake up. But something would happen during the day, I became restless irritable and discontented and my I immediately head to the gas station and pick up a beer (22 oz/32 oz). But the moment I take that 1st drink, again something will happen in my body and that would lead to few more cans. I would then make several trip to the gas station/package store. I had to seek the help of AA and work the 12 steps. Today those urges are gone so I don't have to worry about taking that 1st drink.

Hi my name is Jess,

I`m new to this group and I hope to get some help dealing with my drinking. I use alcohol to kill my emotional pains and major stresses; I realized that alcohol became a real problem for me and I don`t see the way out of it.
After heavy drinking I criticize myself harshly and have so much guilt; however, the next day cicle beging and everything hapen all over again. I used to think of myself as a strong person with strong will power, however those times are gone, I feel like I`m sucked in and have no way out

thanks for lestening

Hi Ruth,

Welcome, you are in the right place!

I'm another one of those moms whose worst time for drinking are from 5-7.  Or it used to be.  And then gradually it went to 4-8 and then from the moment I got home to the moment I went to bed (ie passed out).  Somehow wine seems harmless and it works really well to relieve stress and take the edge off.  Or at least one or two glasses does. The problem is that for some of us the amount just keeps creeping up and you start feeling tired and depressed or anxious and your ability to deal with stress gets worse and worse.  And then you have to start lying or hiding things and you feel worse and worse about yourself.  And your memory starts failing and so on and so on...

Are you able to go a day or two without drinking or is it every day?  Have you ever tried to cut back or quit? This site has been extremely helpful to me. I hope that you find the support here that you are looking for.  One of the most helpful strategies that I learned for quitting is not to do it suddenly but rather to set a date a few weeks down the road and prepare for it.

Have you thought of you being an alcoholic? Only alcoholics have that what we call in AA, the phenomenon of craving that happens after we put the 1st drink in our body. We cannot just stop with one, we always end up drinking more than we originally planned for. But thats not the only problem of an alcoholic. He/she would make several promises not to drink that day or for a week or for a month, but the obsession would kick in and end up taking that 1st drink. And off to the races.

Thanks for the kind replies.  I was a non-drinker for 15 years when I started drinking at playdates (yes I know this is terrible, but actually it's pretty common in my neighbourhood).  I think many moms have a problem with alcohol, but it's hard to know where to draw the line between a few glasses of wine after a hard day and a drinking problem.  Is there one?   My problem is that it's never just one or two...

Welcome to the group Ruth! Many of us are just like you, stay at home moms or single moms, that have fallen into the pattern of drinking when the evening rolls around to relieve stress.  We're here to listen and support. Keep posting!
