Chris,

Welcome to the AHC community.   Choosing to work through the program available on the site is an excellent way to distract yourself from drinking.  Stay involved with the forums and sharing your experience with other members as well.  There is lots of support here for you!

Krissy,

Don't let your mind wander to the negative thoughts.  Instead, think of how great you continue to feel, and that by staying sober, you are staying far from the things that make you feel guilty.  You are succeeding - nearing one week alcohol-free!  Be proud - you are doing great!! Today I feel guilty.  I haven't drank 5 days now.  But somehow all the thoughts of what you did do when you are drinking are unbearable.  I think that is why I drink some sometimes, to quit the guilt.  You drink to get numb.  It is easier that way.  I hope I do not break the cycle tonight.  I want to succeed, just sometimes the numbness feels so good.

I joined the AHC today.  I'm hungover once again, and I'm so tired of it.  I'm also very tired of trying to hide my drinking from everyone, and it helps to read on here how many people are going through the same thing.  Most of my friends have addiction to food, so they don't understand why I have so much trouble stopping at one drink.
I recently went 8 days without drinking, and I couldn't believe how fantastic, relaxed and confident I felt.  So I'm VERY frustrated and depressed that I started up again.  I was going to contact the CAMH and maybe set up a meeting with a counsellor, but I'm going to give this a try first!  Instead of drinking tonight, I will go through the Toolbox and Educational info.   Thanks for all the great information, and the honesty from everyone.  :-)

This website is great!  I am new and I keep coming back and researching and reading.  When you realize that you are not the only one with a problem, it just seems easier.
