Excuses I make!! Wow!

Hi Ashley

thanks for your thoughts... turns out your question is timely..As I will be by myself the next few days...A nice dinner party tomorrow also...for the triggers.. I am going to take the time for walks with my English cocker ---she loves to hunt for anything that flies... I am going to paint outside during what "was" my cocktail hour...call a friend who is also going thru it...call my mom who is in a bad place with cancer..call my brother and wife who just lost their niece in a car wreck...cooking good food and keeping a very clean diet..clean my studio.... antique frames...

The thought of these calls make me wanna drink, but they also.... more now than before,  help me realize the short time we have..
I would like to remember more, and not be in a fog..

My wife is important to me and I want her to see my progress..and grow in her life skills..

I always joke that as I get older I forget so much that..."Every ten minutes is like a new day"

Hepsie ,Tom ,Ashley...thanks for your thoughts...

I gotta do this...!!! It will be tempting to sit down with a bottle of vodka and have martinis..yes more than two...
regards

Hi Scott,

Knowing your triggers are so important. Now the task is to find a replacement coping mechanism for this trigger. What could some replacements be?

I would love to hear your excuses one day Scott, I'm sure we all have come up with some creative ones, lol!  And you are right, we can't do this alone and I'm so glad to have found this site.  I'm just like Hepsie, just the site of a wine glass throws me offtrack and then it's all I can think about.  I think we will have a hard road ahead of us, each with our own triggers and fighting to get passed them. Just the smell of the cold evening air is enough of an excuse for me, lol! Really! The sun starts to set and I start thinking about getting cozy in my big yellow chair in my jammies after a hot bath.  What are some things you guys do to take your mind off of drinking? It's very hard and usually once I have that first thought of opening a bottle, that's it, I'm done for.

The sight of a wine glass does it for me.  The wine section at the grocery store.  I try to avoid it, but there are wines displayed throughout the store, paired with various foods.  Watched Revenge last night on TV.  Wine glasses glittering in candlelight on a party table.  Victoria standing at the window holding a crystal brandy snifter.  Actually, my response to that was "ick.  She's going to have such a headache tomorrow and if she REALLY drank the way she's portrayed as drinking she wouldn't look anywhere near the way she looks."  I guess that's a good thing!

Thanks Ashley and everyone...
Watching a movie last night.. they pour the drink and down the scotch..I had an I want one moment then wine on the same program... all centered around good times or stress reduction...It is going to be hard to stop I can already tell...but I want to get this in control...I was able to abstain, I am an artist  and a bad day of working with no good results is a big trigger for me..
although I have been very successful in the eyes of the art world..I feel I can be much better and am constantly frustrated.. ...a week of hard work does not mean that the work shows it..
I can see a clear trigger here...damn..

Scott,

Welcome to the group. You have come to the right place. We can help you through this.

First of all, good for you for recognizing you have a problem and recognizing you need support. This is a huge first step that takes a lot of courage. Be present to this and give yourself a reward for getting through yesterday and today!

You are about to go through a big lifestyle change; it will be hard but it will be well worth it.  It sounds like you are in the right head space to stick with it.  How do you plan on keeping this motivation up?  How can we change the "I hope" to "I know"?

Keep posting; we are right here with you.

I have used alcohol for many crazy stupid reasons. I have been an excessive drinker for years, and pretty tired of my excuses.
I thought of them all.. I will write them down some time to humor you all...

funny thing: it is hard to believe that I had been believing every excuse I had made..

A couple years ago I knew I was in trouble with alcohol..

Now I have realized that the only benefit of being deluded is your deluded..

so hear I am the first day of not drinking in years!!!
good to learn this support group is here, as I need to go one day at a time!! and change my life for myself and everyone around me..
I am officially saying I can't do this alone
