It has been a really long time, how are you doing???? You are really inspiring and motivating! Please do give us an update if you have a moment...
I know that having "virgin" drinks can be to tempting to some...in the beginning I couldn't drink them either...but everyone is different and everyone knows their limits...it's important to find what works for you and stick to it!
Ya, I think people judge when they are jealous...Like they wished they had the self-control it takes to stay sober or something...if I look at it that way then I feel strong and confident!
If I have one drink, it would not stop there. I could never have one or two. I have to have nine or ten.
I can enjoy the summer with friends who drink normally and responsibly because I have a program of recovery. I enjoy their company as do they mine. I didn't check out from life because I am an alcoholic. Instead I decided to fix my problem and learn to live the right way. I can not tempt myself with a "virgin" drink or something is disguise. I'll just have water or lemonade or soda. If my abstenance makes others uncomfortable about their own drinking, that's their problem. I don't go to parties to judge. I go to have fun!
I have a few strategies - remove all alcohal from the house, entertain guests for brunch instead of the party hours and try out new receipes for refreshing drinks. Here an intersting one I just made tonight:
In a teapot brew 2 bags with 2 cups boinling water, 1/4 cup lemon juice ( and 1/2 cup sugar if you like).
Remove tea bags and add 2 cups cold water and 1/teaspoon each vanilla and almond astracts.
If you did not add the sugar to this recipe you can sweeten to taste at this point.
Serve over a big glass of ice and enjoy thinking how your body is so happy to have such a refreshing drink.
This is very good of you and a big move to be able to cut down your drinking that much. Would you like to share some of your tricks when you have a moment?
That is a good way of thinking about it, you know what is going to work best for you. You know yourself the best and therefore you need to follow your gut instinct. You have made really great progress with your drinking! I am proud of you for that and you should be proud too!
Enjoy the weather, drink "virgin" drinks on those patios and smile proudly!
I can say for certain that I am one of those people who is so effected
by the wather. It gets nicer outside and my mood picsk up. Last time I
was on here, I was still trying to go cold turkey...well honestly it
worked....kind of. It works for a bit and then I pick up one drink, and
feel guilty and start over again. Although I do have to admit one drink
is better than the well many more than one that I was having before, so
from that point of view it is getting better.
I was thinking and I think I had expectations taht were too high
for myself, I've decided to take it easy and not focus on failing but
rather focus on how far I have come, which is a long way from where I
started.
Anyways, I went from having 2 - 3 drinks a day (embarassing to admit) to maybe 1 or 2 a month.
