Thanks Julia, I agree with you said. I have looked in the site for a person in my area, but I think there are only 1 or 2, that specialize in these "problems". So, I figure that as long as I give this person another chance, see how that goes, then I'll know whether he's right for me or not. I agree that if the person can help, just pay them! I would just like to know if I should keep going to one, even though the few that I have found and tried, aren't helping. I am really helping myself by reading books, research, etc. I've been doing a lot in a week and a half, that I thought I wouldn't be able to do for yrs. to come. So, I think that alone is saying something. I plan on going to my next session on Tuesday, as long as this Hurricane Emily doesn't come my way (we live right along the South East Coast of Texas). Thanks for the advice, and I'll keep you posted! Melody

I don't know where you are from, but have you tried checking the aada website for a referral in your area? Also, a lot of therapists will work on a sliding scale based on your income. Don't be afraid to ask if yours would be willing to offer a lower rate if you decide to committ to this. It is a tought call. On one hand, your gut told you this was a slightly negative experience. But, if this is the therapist that can "cure" you, who cares how he goes about doing it and what the cost is, right? Perhaps you could ask him how many similar cases he's treated and what his success ratio was. Maybe after a second visit you'll get a better indication whether or not he's for you. Remember, just because he didn't ask the questions you thought he'd ask, or the session didn't go as you'd imagined, doesn't mean it was bad or can't be helpful. Be open and really ask yourself what the answer is and it will come. That said, he's not the only therapist in the world. And if worse comes to worse, you could find someone who maybe not a specialist in this area, (anxiety, agorophobia, panic) but you could work with them in conjunction with the panic program. After all, any therapist worth their salt knows something about anxieties and phobia. I would hope they've heard some of this before. Let me know how your second appointment goes. Best of luck, Julia

Thank you, Julia. I agree that he just may not be for me, and I do think he is good, it's just that it wasn't what I had expected. Maybe I was expecting too much, even my husband was there, and was wondering if he would keep doing what he did the first time. There aren't but a few Therapists in my area that deal with these problems, so I don't know what else to do. Beside's, it's really expensive, it's $90 an hr! For me and my husband, it's WAY too expensive. But I plan on going next Tuesday, and I feel like if I go, something will benefit me from that. Thanks for the help! Melody

Melody, The best gauge for how well you'll do with a particular therapist is this: Do you feel you can work with this person and improve? Do you trust them? Do you feel comfortable with them? Do they seem to know what they're talking about. Are they professional. If not, it doesn't mean they're not good. Just could mean they're not good FOR YOU. You might want to try a couple and see which one you feel best about. Good Luck, Julia

Hi Everyone! Well, I have been with the Panic Center for 1 week now, and yesterday was my first Therapy session with a Therapist. I'm not all that thrilled with the experience so far. The time I was there (one hr.) I felt like he wanted to tell me how he coped with attacks and how he treats his clients, yet I felt like I couldn't tell him how I coped. I did tell him, but he acted like, "well, I see, but here is how I do things, this is how I treat ppl, etc". It wasn't comfortable. He hardly asked me anything about my life, which I had expected to happen right of the bat, so to speak. I have an appt. for next week, but I feel after this next session, if it hasn't changed, then what am I going there for and spending all this money on? Does anyone else feel this way, if they see any one for there phobia's/attacks? If so, I would REALLY like to know how you feel and maybe what you have done, I would REALLY appreciate it! Melody :)
