Hi Skylark,
How are those cinnamon sticks working out for you? Hell week is almost over. I also smoked for 37+ years and used the patch to quit, so I'm here to tell you that you CAN do this too. I understand that "half hearted" attempts too. I quit hundreds of times each night when I went to bed, but the first thing in the morning I'd light one up. That nicotine sure is an addictive drug isn't it? Hang in there Skylark, it will get easier as time goes by. For some people it's the 2nd or 3rd week that really tests your resolve. If you get an urge that won't seem to go away it helps to get on here and write a message. By the time you are done the urge should have subsided. Writing about it also helps to put things in prospective.  Make sure you reward yourself to. You deserve it for all the effort it takes to do this.
Stay strong.

Awesome for you starting on your quit. I just came back to check in and celebrate my 7th year of being quit. I forgot about all the cool advice and the meter to count how many cigarettes not smoked. That was such a gratifying meter for me to watch. I'm so glad that I quit. You will be, too.

Hi Tim,  I smoked for 37 years, rolling my own for last few years, using 50g packet per week.  I've had a couple of half hearted attempts at quitting before but never lasted more than a day.  I'm on patches and did use the gum for first 2 days but found it left a taste I didn't like, so stopped the gum.  Trying cinnamon sticks today when I get cravings, so far so good and better than all the sweets I've been sucking on.

Hi Skylark,
Congratulations on starting your quit journey!!  If you are not using nicotine replacement therapy, all of the nicotine in your body should be out of your system now. The physical withdraw is over, now comes the mental part of the withdraw. Be sure and drink plenty of fluids for awhile. Distract yourself the best you can too, to help keep the cravings to a minimum. If you haven't yet, go through the "my program" program at the top of the page. There's some good tips in there to help you on your journey. Also, if you have the time, read through these forums for more good hints and tips to help you out. How long did you smoke? Have you tried quitting before? I wish you the best on your quit journey! Keep us posted on your progress too okay?
Stay strong.

Thanks Pappy, I've already discovered a lot of the information on here and it has helped to distract me when cravings start.  It's good to know I'm not the only one having these thoughts and feelings
