Hi Cheryl,

I hope you are still hanging in there. The first few days are the hardest. You can and will survive them. It only gets better from there.

Hi Cheryl,
Welcome to the stop smoking center. How are you doing today? Have you started your quit journey yet? How long have you smoked? Have you tried to quit before, or is this your first time...."taking the plunge"?  It takes a lot of guts to finally decide to give up cigarettes, no matter the reason, and pick a date. The scary part is when the day actually arrives.  Nicotine is a terribly addictive drug, and it can be hard to give it up if you are not prepared. Have you went through the "my program" program at the top of the page yet? It has some hints and tips to help you along your quit journey. Also if you have the time, read through these forums here. There is a lot of good information hidden in here that can also help you. Keep us updated with your progress okay?
Stay strong.

Hi Cheryl
Good for you! Quitting will help against your COPD and a range of other health benefits. Youve got the right mind set because it is like doing battle against the enemy but it can also surprise you and not be as awfully difficult as you expect. Ive used nicotine spray which helped me enormously with cravings. Are you considering using NRTs?

My name is Cheryl and I'm 57 years old.  I have COPD, and I have to quit smoking.  I have 7 cigarettes left in my pack and they are going to be the last cigarettes I ever buy.  I know I have a rough journey ahead of me, and I am ready to come out fighting against all of the cravings and bad feelings that I know I will experience until I get used to having no nicotine in my body.  I hope that this forum will  help.
