Day 2 of me quiting

5 years ago 0 11213 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi Canaan,

A few things I use to manage stress is mindfulness, deep abdominal breathing, PMR, reading, yoga, hugging a loved one, cuddling a pet, enjoying nature (goes well with mindfulness), walking, etc. If I need something to fidget with I may chew gum, play with silly putty in my hand, drink water, drink tea or colour.

I hope one of my suggestions inspires you. It does take time to adapt; but, you will feel freed once you are able to crack this code. I recommend reading further into mindfulness. It has helped me immeasurably. Also, check out our sister site for anxiety. The program is beneficial for anyone. The auxiliary sessions include how to use box breathing and PMR. You can access the free Cognitive Behaviour Therapy program here: https://evolutionhealth.care/index

Let us know if you find something that helps.

Hi Canaan,

Welcome! I am sorry to hear about your wife's health but I am very glad you are being so supportive.

Having slips is very common. It sometimes takes a few attempts before quitters achieve a successful forever quit. It sounds like stress is a trigger for you.  It is a trigger for many. What new coping tools do you plan on trying instead of smoking when stressed? Learning a new way to live and new ways to cope is a big part of quitting. Stick with the process and you will learn lots!

Hi Canaan, welcome to the wonderful wacky world of quitting smoking :) Get right back on the horse. It's so much better to say, "I've only had a couple puffs in X weeks," instead of, "I went a week and then started smoking again." You know you can get through one day,two days, three days, etc. So just give it another run, and keep posting and reading here :)

thank you guys, i'm still gonna keep going no matter what im on my 4th day still craving but not like the first 2 days specially first day was a killer. your support means so much to me and it's great knowing that there is a community like this. the thing is it's more like a habbit than addiction like i used to smoke while thinking, solving math, waiting the bus, train or tram anyone has an idea of something to do instead ?? plus i'm more energetic that i sleep only 3h or 4h max.

Hi Canaan,
How are you doing today? Are the cravings getting easier to deal with?
If you can find the time, read through these forums. The answers for dealing with the cravings, and helping to stay focused are in here somewhere. You just have to find them. A lot of people have had the same issues at the start of their quits, and hopefully what worked for some of them might work for you. Yes it is a struggle in the beginning, but it's worth it in the end, you'll see.
Stay strong.

Hi Canaan good for you for doing this and being here. Maybe you need some nicotine therapy to help you in the early stages...lm not sure if you feel thats right for you. 10 years ago l thought l was happy to go on smoking forever but l was just deluded by a lie. I wish l knew then what l know now...how important it was to quit because now lm on 20+ years of smoking. The sooner you do this the better. Good luck, keep us posted.
