    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Strawberry, I have also smoked for 40+ years, and am 61 years old. Like many smokers my age, I have COPD and am trying again to quit for my health. I had surgery in January so I quit for 3 months. Since I was in bed most of the time, I didn't even think of smoking (I was also taking Chantix.) When I went to refill my Chantix, the insurance company claimed I couldn't refill until this December.(huge panic-they are $450!!!) so like a fool I went back to smoking with my Daughter who lives with me and my Husband. I am very much a social smoker,a "I'm in pain, I deserve a cig," a boredom smoker, and have very little will power.
I came here to find support (as you did). I know what it is like to be a non-smoker now, and want to get back to it.
Maybe together we can fight this dragon, one hour at a time!

Welcome!

I am glad you found us. It sounds like you really want to quit but you have been using smoking as a self-soothing technique to cope with depression. Finding alternative/healthier ways to self-sooth may help you be successful in your quit. What have you tried that works as a way to cope with feelings or as a way to distract? What do you think you could try that may help?

Never give up! Always keep trying. I'm new here and I'm going to use posting and reading as an extra incentive to stay smoke free.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi There,

No one has post for yrs.  Why?

I want to quit smoking due to the increase of cost and I do feel better when I smoke less.   HOWEVER, I feel depressed and my cigarettes have become a crutch to my depression.  I am smoking more!   I need to quit or cut back.   I can't seem to do either.

I've smoke for 40 yrs now.   I am 61yrs old!   God just that is a horrible thought.  I am living on my own.  No boyfriend, no social life.  Oh so hard to get one!

The only time I quit was when I was pregnant.   Maybe I didn't actually quit.  I just postponed my smoking until the baby was born.

Can't afford those Stop Smoking Groups they have with meds.

I really need help with this!  I really need support!
