So back on Day One, I wasn't aware that my friends and work colleagues had opened a bet on how long I would last before I failed and started smoking again! Had I known, I would have joined in and bet against myself as well. My smoking history was horrendous, over 30 years long, unfiltered roll-ups at least 40 a day and a very smoking working environment. I even used to wake in the middle of the night in order to have a cigarette before I could get back to sleep again. I quit cold turkey as I couldn't see the sense of supplying myself with the thing I was so addicted to in another form.
I succeeded principally due to the fact that I finally wanted to be free of my nicotine shackles and due to finding this site and the overwhelming support of fellow quitters. In my case it was people like Riverdaleman and Brent whose empathy and humour helped to keep me going,
So, 11 years on and I still get a kick out of the fact that I am totally free and that I really won the bet! Thank you all and Day One quitters .....keep on quitting!
Best regards, Lilly.
