Long term smoker needs to stop!

Welcome!

I am so sorry to hear about your loved ones. Smoking has taken a lot. It is very common for people to have difficulty quitting even when they have a lot of motivation. The fact that you are here posting and thinking about it tells me you are one step closer to making a change!

I encourage you to reconsider the e-cig. There is no evidence that is actually helps people quit smoking and some people think it reinforces the addiction. There is evidence that they can be a form of harm reduction. If you want to quit smoking completely I encourage you to talk to your doctor about quit methods that have success in helping people quit smoking in studies. There are lots of options out there now.

The fact that you stopped a few times before is good news. You likely learned a lot from those experiences. How were you able to stop when you quit then? What triggered you to return to smoking?

Honestly, the nicotine will always tell you its not the right time to quit. There is always this reason or that reason. However, you just have to take the jump. Only you can decide if you are ready to quit, no one else can make that decision. I found this site has really helped me when I needed someone to talk to or just to help someone else.

We are here for you when you are ready :)

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi, I am a 50 year old female who has smoked for approximately 35 years and on occasion have managed to quit for short periods of time only. Life has not been easy and I always find a reason to say that now is not the right time. One of my oldest friends was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer in November which has spread to the brain and throughout her body - should be a definite reason to stop ... she is 73 Another long term friend had his lung removed 15 years ago but was still addicted to nicotine gum and eventually needed Oxygen to breath - I attended his funeral a few weeks ago - he was 82 My father has emphazimia and needs an inhaler - he cannot walk very far at all without being very out of breath - he was a long term pipe smoker but a year ago switched to e-cigarettes - he is 74 So why on earth am I still smoking??!! I have an e-cigarette but people keep telling me that maybe it's not the right time for me to quite with all that's going on and I use that as an excuse .... I am not very proud of myself!
