del215,

I think holding yourself accountable is a very good thing to do and it means your growing. Quitting smoking is definitely hard, I also am doing it cold turkey. I will tell you this the first couple weeks I thought I was going to lose it. However I am now almost at 2 months and it is getting easier like everyone said. Sure I still find times were I want one however I know it will pass, and those times are decreasing everyday.

All I can say is don't be hard on yourself. So you may have relapsed, it happens. Just never stop trying to quit! Take what you learned and what made you relapse and find ways to avoid it so you can quit! Something that really helped me was when I was craving bad I just decided to either sleep or find something to clean/organize. I found if my mind was distracted in those first couple of weeks it helped!

Stay strong!

Well,

I relapsed ... after a week.  I originally wasn't going to post it on here, but I'm trying to hold myself accountable.  I'm trying to quit cold turkey, so yah it's tough, but I don't want that to be an excuse.  I feel so bad relapsing, as someone who likes to think they're a rational person and whose made the decision to quit based on rational reasons (health, money, the way it makes me feel) it makes me feel so weak when I relapse, like I'm crazy-- like I thought I was in control but I'm not.  And then I feel so bad I just want to smoke more and then its just a downward spiral.  Does the feeling of wanting to smoke ever go away fully?  I feel like trying to quit is going to be an everyday trying effort for the rest of my life-- yah I might know little tricks to get over these urges but the fact is that I'll forever have to exert energy/willpower to not smoke for the rest of my life.  When I think like this it makes all of this seem futile

Thanks, it's day 3 and it's been tough but seeing these words of encouragement definitely help.  The key, I'm starting to realize, is to keep focus on the fact that I am addicted to cigs and that that's all this is ... because I find that when I do try to quit I rationalize to myself that I can quit whenever since I've only been smoking for a little while and in the end it's just a rationalization for my addiction.  Anyways, that's my 2 cents, thanks again

Just think, it's only been a couple of years. If you quit it will be like you never did it. You haven't done any lasting damage, yet.... And if you don't stop now you'll blink and 25 years will have passed. It benefits you to stop at any stage but with you it will be like no damage at all yet. We find we do things in life we regret, at your age you'll have nothing to regret if you stop now vs later. I know. Peace and all the best of luck! You have a whole beautiful life in front of you. All you have to do is take it! Stay in school too ;)

Welcome!

Congrats on getting started. It sounds like you are ready to take control of this. Have you thought through a quit plan yet? If not, no worries this program can help you. If you have, I would love to hear about it.

Hope to read from you more soon.

Hello everyone, I am just another fellow smoker who has decided they've had enough of the lifestyle and is looking to move on.  I've been smoking for two years, doesn't seem like much but, wow, those two years flew by and I'm afraid if I don't stop now, I'll take another drag and exhale to find it's been 10 years.  I'm pretty young, finishing up studying in college, and I'd like to graduate on to better things ... aka not smoking.  Not really a big fan of forum websites but I'm being serious with myself about this change and I'm trying to be open to all forms of support.  Nice to meet everyone, TLDR another smoker is trying to quit
