Am I non smoker now?

So, 3pm yesterday (9/12) was my last cigarette - and I feel drained over the last 24 hours... 2 hours sleep, nausea, anxiety, unexplainable urges to throttle passerbys!!!.. 23 years smoking, half a dozen attempts at quitting, and now here I am, determined.

Wifey not a fan of the habit and has said some things in recent months which have hit home...  vocalising the reasons I always knew were the reasons I wanted to quit.. but like a lot of others, I found the reasons WHY I should smoke instead. But it's time, we always know when that is (though people tell me Xmas is not the time to stop - really? is that not the best present I can give my wife?? a non smoking breath with a 100% attendance at our Christmas day (instead of nipping out here and there for a quick puff and shuffling off to spray myself and drink mouthwash!)

Its tough today sitting in an office all day with people going to and fro (to the smoking area), colleagues not exactly being understanding of the trauma my body is going through, and a less than ample supply of lollipops and sugarfree gum to get though.

Cold Turkey hurts.. a lot!.

So I started telling people that I'm a non smoker - all the smokers think its great and are cheering me on... but I kind of feel like a fraud.. I've just not smoked for a day, it's no biggy.. or is it??
Quitting smoking takes time and effort.. I have just done it for 48 hours and situation is really challenging.. I really found the community highly motivating so just dont get depressed..

Dont think it is bad at all to quit smoking for one day.. You can keep working on it and increase the gap.

Welcome!

Congrats on getting started. Those tough withdrawal symptoms you mentioned are temporary. They will pass and you will soon feel better then ever.

It sounds like you are ready for this quit so in that case it is the perfect time to quit. I think your wife will be very happy this holiday season!

How are you feeling today?

Don't worry, I feel like a fraud too. 2 days without smoking and I tell people I'm a non-smoker. I think it's part of the process where we need to voice in public the fact we stopped this bad habit. We are not frauds. We are non-smokers. And we can do this! Keep it up!
