Hey Paradox!!!

How's it going today?  Looks like you have that first day of non-smoking under your belt and an extra 6 euros in your pocket!  Continue to read and learn and post often!  It really helps!!!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Paradox congratulations on your good decision. just take one day at a time. reward yourself psychologically everyday by rejoicing that you haven't smoked. Inhale and exhale deeply. in a couple of weeks from now you will not want to be around smokers or be in smokey environments it may sound strange but you will see it's true. Life only gets better, the earlier ones stops the better. not only health and money wise but in a sense of those wasted years smoking. I wasted 24 :( all the best mate John

Hey Paradox!

Yes, you are a non-smoker!  Keep that thought in your mind when those craves pop up!  One of our favorite acronyms here is N.O.P.E., Not One Puff Ever!  When the urge hits you, you tell the nico-demon NOPE!  I went into my quit with the attitude that I was at war with the nico-demon and in order to win my war, I had to be determined and vow to never, ever lose one battle!  One day at a time, one hour at a time or even one minute at a time!

KNOW that you can do this!  PMA, buddy!  Wake up fresh and rejoice that you are gaining your freedom!  It's hard, but it won't kill you... smoking will!

Get a good night's sleep and then get up ready to kick some nico-demon ash!!!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Dear Jim,

Thank you for your support and encouragement. Most of my family on my mother's side all smoke and my uncle died from smoking just two years ago. I have been smoking for 4 years now, (4 years too long) and my health is beginning to deteriorate. It is time for my to kill my habit once and for good!

I posted a post on another thread of mine and I basically said that I am trying the "Cold Turkey" method again (as of 15 minutes ago). :)

I am now a non-smoker.

Death to cigarettes!!
10 years ago 0 2778 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hey Paradox!

Chin up!  No failures here!  We consider them learning experiences!    You didn't smoke a cigarette and that's a good thing.  Nicotine replacement therapy HAVE helped so many here and the name of the game IS the Stop "SMOKING" Center!  My nephew used an e-cig and quit smoking and used the e-cig for months and for all I know he may still be using it, but he's not smoking cigarettes!  And neither did you, so in my mind not a failure.

This is a place to learn how to quit smoking and even though e-cigs are not on the list of recommended nicotine replacement therapies, they may soon be.  I know you wanted to be successful going at it cold turkey, but if you made it through the day without smoking, that's a good first step!  Build on that tomorrow and if you have to have a puff or two from the e-cig to get you through tomorrow, so be it!  That would make it TWO successful days of not smoking cigarettes!  Like our friend Lolly always says, "Just don't smoke!"

I had many attempts at this quitting game and used most of the NRT's available and none worked for me until I tried Chantix (Champix).  I know it's not for everyone, but it worked for me along with the information and support I found here!  This whole quitting game is about wanting your freedom more than you want to smoke!  I know, you've heard it before as did I.  For me, it was the third family member to die from lung cancer that really woke me up and made me realize that I DID want my freedom more than I wanted to smoke and.... die!

If you didn't want your freedom, you probably wouldn't have came back and posted just a bit ago.  I know you want it. Crave it and use what you have learned by going through the program to make it happen!    You CAN do this and it may take a few practice quits before your forever quit comes!  The main thing to remember is to never quit quitting!  We're all rooting for you!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hey Jim,

Thank you so much for your great message. Although very inspiring, it made me feel extremely guilty because I have messed up today. I didn't smoke. Instead, I went and bought an electronic cigarette and used it. Don't get me wrong, such products help thousands and it's not my first time using this product either.

It's just that when I tried to give up whilst using the e-cig, it lead back to smoking. I've now tried every single nicotine replacement product available and every product led back to me smoking. That's when I thought, no more Nicotine! I told myself that if I attempted to give up again, I would go cold turkey.

I have failed.

Hey Paradox!!!

Welcome to the SSC!!!  Go ahead and keep the tape on a bit longer!    Not really!  It WILL get better, but it will definitely take some time.  I've read through the 2 threads you have been posting on today and understand everything you have been going through.  Just do your best to tough if out today and get a good night's sleep!

You stated that you don't think that you are really ready for this, but I want to let you in on a little secret.  It will really help if you get your mind in the game, so to speak and do some serious self coaching!  What I am talking about is psyching yourself up for the battle of and for your life, because that may very well be what your quit is all about.  It really helps to start your journey with a Positve Mental Attitude and urgent desire to end your addiction once and for all!  If you want your freedom more than you want to smoke, your chances of success increase greatly!  Soooo keep on telling yourself that you CAN do this!!!

Hopefully you followed the steps in the Program well and have made a good list of reasons for quitting!  Keep that think available to look at when one of those cravings hit and the sugarless gum doesn't seem to be doing it for you!  Also, gather up more goodies for a crave basket and keep it close!  One thing that helped many during a crave was ice water!  It also helps to flush the chemical nasties out of your system, which will take about 3 days!  Another thing that helped me in my non-smoking infancy was to hang out here on the Forums almost constantly during the day reading and learning and posting!  Being here was a great distraction and baby sitter for many, many successful quitters!

If you need a hand getting through a crave, post!  Normally a crave only lasts 3 - 5 minutes and you can definitely find something to write for that amount of time and by then you horrendous crave should have subsided!  Easy as that!

Hang tough, buddy and remember you CAN do this!  We're all rooting for you!
