Way to go Workin'!!!

Look at you go!  I just got my bike all cleaned up and filled up the tires, but it's going to take a while before I'm ready for a 20 mile jaunt!  I bet the wider seat really does help!    I may look into getting one!

Great stat day for you, too!  Love the number... 678 days!!! Sounds like a good reason for a great reward!

Holly cow Working on it,
Where'd you get all this energy from? It couldn't be from a lack of NICATINE could it?   Isn't life grand when you can actually enjoy it! I'm very proud of your achievement too. Keep it up.

Haha, Penitent. One of the reasons I love my beach cruiser is because it's designed to have a wide, cushy seat. And I have switched the original seat for one that is even wider and cushier.

I've also been better able to handle longer rides since I've been doing more time on the elliptical machine at the gym--both because I've been building endurance and because I've been adding a bit more muscle/ firmness in an area that is helpful for sitting on a bike seat.

This is exactly the post I was looking to find! Great inspiration and so good to read for us who are just into our quits.
A huge well done to your new found fitness, it's amazingly brilliant that you are putting that extra lung function to good use.
It feels good to know that you were once in my shoes and it's even better to know that one day I will be in your shoes where you are now!!
Well done Working on it, and thank you for sharing this post. You have been, and continue to be, a great inspiration to people like me.

Hi Working On it!

Two things spring to mind immediately.

Firstly, Congratulations!!!

And secondly "Ouch!" Virtually 20 miles continuous cycling after such a long time away? Surely you can't be walking normally today?

Keep it going - I am impressed!

Best,
Penitent

Hi there,

That's a great achievement!  I think we all used to kid ourselves that really we were fit, and even had a ciggie as a reward when we did whatever!!!

This Freedom is the best reward for quitting!!!

Hey,

This may not be a big deal for the runners and cyclists out there, but it is for me. Today, for the first time ever, I rode my bicycle, a beach cruiser, over 20 miles. 19 and 3/4 of those were continuous/ no stopping aside from the required ones at stoplights.

This is something I never imagined being able to do as a smoker. I remember declaring years ago that 5 miles was my limit on the bike. And I actually thought I was in good shape at that point! I truly had no idea how limited I was by smoking at that time.

Oh, and just to top it all off, I hiked 7 miles yesterday. Walking that distance is not a first, but that is definitely a long one for me. And to be able to go out and ride a long distance the day after was awesome. The amount of time and energy I have for exercise these days is just amazing to me.

I am so, so grateful that I quit smoking. Wish I'd have done it years before I did. For those of you who are still struggling to shake the habit, I just want you to know that there is a whole wonderful new world beyond nicotine. Hang in there. Life is really good on the other side of this thing.
