How are you feeling  today bobena91?

This stress and agitation will  pass. But you also have to work  on new coping  mechanisms for stress. In the past you would  have taken a  break and  taken deep breaths of a  cigerette when you were stressed. Now that you  no  longer have  that you need a replacement. What  are some new ways you can calm yourself?

Hi Bobena,

The others have said it all......smoking will not help you to manage your anger.  Have you ever heard of the various stages of grieving?  One of those stages is 'anger.'  It strikes me that you may be in that stage right now.  Also, no stress is made better by smoking....you just think it will be.  Your boss will remain the same whether you smoke or not!  It is very common for quitters to go through the stages of grieving, and it is good to recognise those stages as they appear. They are:-  Denial and Isolation/ Anger/ Bargaining/Depression/ Acceptance.  Have a think about how they could be applied to a quit.

We do not experience those stages in any specific order, but most of us go through them in some way or another......it is all part of the quitting process.  Having a cigarette only gave you the 'rush' that your brain was craving, but doing that, even once, is not quitting.  N.O.P.E.  Not One Puff Ever.  Gird yourself up and arm yourself for the battle....that is what quitting is, and you must be sure your addiction, (I called 'him' the Nicodemon,) cannot win.

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!!!

Hey Bobina!!!

Hang in there, buddy!!!  Remember... smoking doesn't make anything better!!!  I crave only lasts 3 - 5 minutes so go to your list of coping mechanisms to see what you can do to distract yourself for 5 minutes!  I used to log in here and read a post or just post!  Our little word of advise was to log in and post for help or suggestions and wait for 5 replies!  By then the crave would definitely be gone!  Winning these little battles against the nico-demon will strengthen your resolve and make you more determined to not lose the next battle!  Remember, we're here for you!

I'm okay... I didn't smoke.  Today will be the same way - but I won't smoke.  I might quit and go live in a box under a bridge, but I won't smoke!!

Hi Bobena.
I'm so sorry to hear that you've had a rough time of it lately, and that you have a boss that's a 'wordsIwontsaysoIdon'toffendanyone'. Are you sure we don't work for the same person? or maybe they are twins.
Stress can be a real trigger for relapse so it's really important to learn new ways of coping with stress without sucking on the little white poison sticks. As Timbo has already suggested, deep breathing exercises really do help. Try not to let your 'wordsIwontsaysoIdontoffendanyone' boss get you down or stress you out, I know that can be easier said than done, but if he does, just remind yourself of your reasons for quitting. Tell yourself that he/she is not worth losing your quit over. Picture your boss in the same league as the Nic O Demon, you are stronger than both of them, and breathe....
I'm sure that with your determination and strength you will overcome this, they say that the first 3 days are the hardest, well it's true. Everyday from now on it will get easier for you, honestly, it really does, I promise.
Take care and stay strong . We are all rooting for you.

Hi Bobena,
Ah yes, nothing like a boss putting a little stress in your life.  Close your eyes and take ten deep breaths slowly. Feel a little better now? It's really hard re-learning how to deal with stress without a smoke isn't it? I'm almost 4 months into my quit, and still trying to get a handle on the stress. It's getting better for me as time goes by. Just hang in there and don't give in to the urge to light one up. Keep fighting it and it will get better. This is a good place to blow off some steam every now and then, which also makes you feel better doesn't it?  Hang in there,we're with you all of the way through the good times and the bad...

Is pure hell.  It's not that I'm craving - I'm just really pissed and stressed - long story but basically my boss is a wordsIwon'tsaysoIdon'toffendanyone.  He's been like this all week.  But it's Day 4 technically - I ended up having two Friday night so I started my count over - and in these 4 days I've done really well.  I'm already needing the gum and tic tacs less... nights are still hard but I'm making it through them okay... I'm very determined to quit this time - permanently.
