bobena,

Welcome!

Nothing is considered "stupid" here!

You have only to look around and use the knowledge at your finger tips.  Use the program, tips, tools and coping mechanisms.  This can help with the grouchiness, emotions and craves.  Post often and let the members post support and experience to help guide you along.

Stay strong and push forward!

You will have a fantastic trip with your BF and it can be smoke free!

We are always here for you!

I'm a woman too... usually that doesn't happen to me unless I have the flu.  Honestly sleeping at night is one of the things that scares me the most so the fact that I made it through that first night is a pretty big deal for me

So far today I have done all of the following without a smoke.  I've had to talk myself down a few times - but it helps that I don't have any here at work.  A week ago I would have been making up excuses to leave to go get a pack if I was even remotely close to running out, so I consider this a huge win.  I've driven my car, eaten, gotten through 5 damn hours of work - doesn't sound like as much as I thought it would.

When I get home I plan to let the monsters hide what little smokes I have there.... there are a few in a pack I threw away this morning.  Or maybe I'll just drown them.  IDK.  But I know the temptation will be worse there than it will be here at work... so this weekend is my true test.  And by God.  I'm going to do it.  NOPE

Rete... how are you doing with all this?  Are you pulling through okay??

I'm proud of you also.  Two days smoke free is a new milestone and just think you will setting a new one each and every day from here on in when you don't smoke.

Personally, I'm on day three of my new life so not far ahead of you.  I'm a woman and I always have nightsweats so I can't answer that question for you.

Keep at it.  You can do it, for yourself and your future.

I ended up going to bed much earlier than usual last night.  I woke up several times with the sweats - is this my body sweating out the toxins?  Still - even though I didn't get the best sleep last night, I actually feel really good today.  I haven't had any caffeine - which is very unusual for me - I made it to work and through the first hour and I'm not doing too bad.  I've had a couple cravings but I have my water and mints and some carrots and that seems to help.  I think I will need to come look at my quit meter quite often... that will definitely help keep me motivated!

Hi there,

Be determined!   Be very determined!!!  then you will succeed!!  Problems may pop up, and the one thing you need to do is stay more determined to quit than to smoke!!!

Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!!!

Hi again!

There's a thread called something like "Low cost or no cost rewards" somewhere on here.  I'll try to find it and bump it forward for you!  Be on the lookout for it!

I'm glad to see that you are determined to kick that nico-demon's ash!    The thing is, if you never quit quitting, you WILL achieve your forever quit!  Just dust yourself off and get back up on that pony and hang on for the ride of your life!  I'll check back in on you tomorrow!  Hang in there!

Oh, one more thing... or two... get your crave basket together and drink lots of ice cold water!

Thanks guys!  I had a slip already - but it's actually made me more determined - it didn't make me feel good at ALL.  I didn't enjoy it - I felt guilty - and cold...lol.

I appreciate the support - I know I have a long way to go but I have so many good reasons to quit.

One question - smoking has always been like a "reward" for me - reward for getting a project done at work, reward that I made it through another hour at work - heck, reward that I made it to work... how do you reverse that thinking?  I think I need other rewards... but I'm not sure what I'm going to reward myself with.  I'll spend some more time going through the program!!

Hey Bobina91!!!

Welcome to the SSC and congrats for just giving those nasty cancer sticks the boot!!!    You can have a really great start on your quit by the 1st and your trip will be much more enjoyable by then!

It will really help to go through the Program and use the Tools (above tabs).  Learning about this addiction and ways to deal with cravings are all covered.  As many of us have said, knowledge is power and you may need all of the power you can get to continue kicking that nico-demon's butt!   There is also a wealth of information here on the different threads on the Forums.  If you want to know something specific about quitting, just ask or use the search button on the Forum main page.

Another thing that really helped me when I quit was exactly what Penitent mentioned... stick close, read posts, chime in when you need some support and provide some support along the way!  It really does make quitting a bit more bearable commiserating with your new quit buddies here!  Also, this is a great place to distract your self from constantly thinking about smoking!  I spent a better part of my first 3 months hanging out here reading and posting and it did the trick for me!

Hang in there and crave your freedom!!!  It is soooo worth it!!!

Welcome bobena91,

Some of the best quits start on the spur of the moment, but beware because some of the worst quits do too!

If you really want to quit, you can do. And coming to this site is a great boon to anybody's quit and yours in particular. There is a wealth of information and advice. All that you need to support your quit successfully is here. So, get reading and pose any questions that you may have.

We have a few new quitters here this week and I recommend that you all bounce off each other all the way to the light at the end of the tunnel!!

Good Luck,
Penitent

So lately I've had a nasty cold -  which of course is worse since I smoke and have for 20 years.  And I'm  grouchy and tired and this morning I just thought you know... I think it's finally time to quit.  But I'm gonna do it gradually - give myself a week to wean off them before a weekend trip with my bf on 3/1.  Then I thought - damn - I don't want to be all grouchy on that trip - so I decided tomorrow.  Now I'm just deciding today is it.  I had 4 this morning before I made the decision.  Since then I've driven - twice - and had lunch - all without smoking.  I'm pretty damn proud of myself... which is kinda stupid considering it's been all of 3 hours since I had a smoke.  But I'm determined to do it this time!
