Thanks Ashley,
Sure, Will Do, when I can..

I don't want to dominate the forums with my issues and certainly do not want to appear like a drama queen in the forums ever..But one thing that I can say for sure is this there is a lot more to quiting smoking and nicotine than just kicking the habit and just because you quit smoking doesn't mean the battle is over. You have to pay attention to your quit and not get complacent about it..plus you can still have health problems after you quit. Quitting is not a automatic
"get out of jail free"card by any means..

So anyway I want to say I am really a bit busy right now with my quit, my diet, exercise and some new meds and other things too, so I will lay low for now.
I really do need the rest and time off to concentrate on myself and my health anyway..and I want to give others a chance to post too. I am sure some of the other members have things they would like to post about too, so I am sure they can fill in the gaps around here too.

update..

I posted in a earlier post at the beginning of last month that I was having hernia surgery well I changed my mind and called it off. I just couldn't go with it. I found a new doctor and she is helping with my diabetes diagnosis.

So for now I am continuing to work on my diet and exercise. One of my doctors agreed that this was a good decision for now plus she said a surgery right now would put a big damper on my exercise, so to stick the course with my diet and exercise and to try to lose so more weight before deciding to have surgery.

So that's what I've been doing. This last month has not been my best.  I started smoking again 7 days ago but am now back on track again with getting and staying quit for good. Plus I am paying more attention to my diet and exercise and trying to make sure I get enough rest/sleep too..This is what I am doing now.

Speaking of exercise, 4 months after breaking my ankle and having pretty major surgery, my orthopedist finally gave me the OK to start running again!!! I used to run marathons so this is a pretty big deal for me. Being able to run again will be just what I need to keep motivated to stay quit this time. Not to mention I won't be stressing so much about weight issues from quitting and not being able to run. I don't care that the high of the day tomorrow is in the low 20s... I'm going outside for a run no matter what!

Kudos to everybody else getting out there and exercising. Never think that whatever you're doing is too small. I hear people all the time saying things like "I only walk" or "I only go jogging" as if that's not a huge deal. Getting out the door, onto a treadmill, bike, or whatever, is awesome. :-D

Wow! 25 lbs is great!  Good for you!

And I hope your daughter decides to quit too.  Actually, funny you mention that.  My biggest motivation to keep going right now is my dad.  He was a 2 pack a day smoker all his life.  He managed to quit 12 years ago.  If he could do it, I figure anybody can, especially me!  He is constantly trying to drill in my head that I will always find an excuse to not quit, and there's never a good time to do it.  He says, just do it and be done with it!  No excuses!  I'm doing my best to listen this time.

Yah for you too! Don, Twenty five pounds is Excellent as you say. I would love to see that on my scale. Great idea about the mall too.

We walk in the mall here when the weather is to hot or cold and like you said it doesn't take much to make a difference in your health. There are quite a few regulars that walk at the mall. We have a walmart there so I can also stop in and get supplies too while I'm at it. I find the shops are a good place to keep moving when doing a cool down. I walk at the swap meets on the weekend when the weather is good and also have a stationary bike that I ride sometimes but walking is my favorite..

I spent years overdoing it all the time and then I found out that doing a little less worked a whole lot better. Go figure..

Yay for you snice and Roses for putting in the effort to improve yourselves. I have a daughter your age snice who still smokes but maybe someday soon she'll be able to stop so I like to see you do well at such a young age. Roses losing 10 pounds is a huge effort. Thank of that 10 pounds as losing a 10 pound bag of potatoes which is that much less to carry around. I've been trying to think of alternatives to walking on the winter days when it just isn't smart to be walking outside. It doesn't have to be big just something like maybe walking inside at a mall checking out the shops or something. So far I've lost 25 pounds since the start of October. My doctor says that if I lose another 30 pounds that he should be able to cut my medication usage in half so that's the goal I'm working toward now. Excellent for us for trying to improve ourselves. breather Don

Hi Don,

Good for you for working on your health and exercise. I read you post where you mentioned it and it got me to thinking about diet and exercise too. I have been eating smaller portions like you and I walk a lot too..I forgot to mention I also gave up bread too. I lost another pound so far this week. My Blood pressure, blood sugar and lipids are looking much better and my labs results came back much better this time too..

You are so right everything in moderation is the best way to exercise. I have had to learn that the hard way.

I am having hernia surgery on December 27 so my exercise will be slow and easy for quite a while but after a couple of months I am hoping to be able to do more physically than I have been able to do in a long while. I am hoping to be able to start working and digging in my garden again this spring..which is something I love and have really missed doing the last year and a half or so..If that one doesn't pan out than there are lots of other things I am looking forward to doing again too..

So like you say "Easy does it" with everything is the best thing.

Taking it One Day At A Time, As Always.
Best of luck with your diet and exercise.

Hi snice.
Thanks for the tip on reading. I do a lot of reading too. Snacking on raw low carb vegetables helps me with the hunger panes...and drinking water..

Good topic!

I have been able to maintain my weight by regularly hitting the gym and keeping my portion sizes small.  I try not to snack on junk food, and not eating at night is important when trying to keep the pounds off.  I find I have been thinking of snacking more now that I'm not smoking, but I refuse to replace it with another habit.  I've been doing a lot of reading, and that takes my mind off of it.
