Weight Loss Success/What Works for you?

Hey All,

I decided to "weigh in" to provide an update.  Aside from going over my calorie counting limit on Superbowl Sunday and one other day, I have been doing well.  I have my calorie limit set so that I should lose a half pound a week and since the new year began I am down 7 pounds with 23 or more to go.  I'm eating so much salad my ears are growing and I'm starting to get bunny whiskers growing out of the side of my face!    The big problem though is that my nose won't stop twitching now!  Hope it gets better!!

     Good luck!

Haven't weighed in here for a while so am impressed to see this version of our members' best achievement stats on this thread!  Look at you go!  Amazing breather! Way to go for sticking to your plan and losing over thirty #s since October! Wow!
Woo Hoo!  for you Jim (& your lovely significant other ;),  snice, Lemontwist, and Roses too - These kudos are well deserved!

It's easy to pack on a few #s after quitting smoking and can take some time to adjust to our new hand to mouth routine.  I was losing, then gaining back 4 #s over and over for the last 18 months!  It sucked. However, since I got a mini trampoline to literally 'jump start' my day along with a large fitness ball that I can use instead of my office chair, I have finally broken the 4 lb barrier. Exercise, and cutting way back on wheat products have worked very well to help me keep the extra lbs off lately too.  A Great Way To Start A New Year!
Cheers : )

Hey Rose!

I'm right there with you!  I'm doing Monday morning weigh-ins and lost 3 pounds last week!  The calorie counting seems to be doing if for me, along with becoming a bit more physically active over the weekend.  I've been doing well with the calorie counting this week, so hopefully I'll have some more good news to report next week!

Hello , breather here. Hope everyone survived the holidays without gaining too much weight. I neither lost nor gained any over the holidays but I'm back at it again. Down another 5 pounds in the last week which makes it down 30 pounds since October. The reason I wanted to post today is that while I was walking along the trail I started thinking back to when I'd smoke in the extreme cold. I'd cough , hack , sputter and turn I don't know how many different colors by not being able to breathe. The cold was always a real killer for me but do you think I'd take that cigarette out of my face ? You guessed it , not a chance of that happening. That was then and this is now. The cold air doesn't seem to bother me now. In fact I like to breathe deeply now that I can. It's basically effortless to walk the trail now whereas a flight of stairs would have me stopping for air before. Anyway , just wanted to contribute that bit of info and urge all of us to keep on going. Excellent for us for not smoking and trying to get healthier today. breather breathing better !

Hello again Jim!

Thanks for the support and congratulations to you and your family in making the decision to start eating healthy and exercising again.

Just think about how great you feel now that you kicked the Nicodemon's butt across the room and his nasty habit to boot. You're going to feel fantastic once the weight starts coming off and you get more fit..The initial weight loss is pretty fast with a low carb diet, than is slows down to about a half a pound a week which gives your body a chance to adjust and firm up. All it takes is a little moderate exercise like walking and your back in the groove again..

With your PMA and a little determination you will shed the extra pounds in no time....
 Best of luck my friend,

Hey Rose,

I'm attempting to get on the weight loss band wagon again after a hiatus where I have gained 15 pounds.  Both the little woman and I have restarted using an app on our phones called Loseit, which is a calorie counting/recording program.  My goal is to get 5 pounds below my pre-quit weight, which will be around 35 pounds.  We are going to reduce our carb intake and try not to eat as late as we have been doing for a long, long time, as well as try to exercise a LOT more!

I know you have been on one helluva roller coaster ride during your quit, Rose and I'm glad that you have quit again!  Personally, I have no problem with you getting on here and posting till your fingers are about to fall off!    The main thing is that you do whatever it takes for you to make this quit stick... forever!  Make 2014 the year, live by N.O.P.E. and be done with smoking once and for all!  You CAN do this!  One day at a time, Buddy!!

Starting a new diabetes medication today. This is my second attempt at taking it in two weeks..It is supposed to help regulate blood glucose by restricting the amount of glucose the liver dumps into the blood stream..which a diabetic body can not process for energy which then in turn causes all kinds of havoc.
Anyway the idea is that this medication will help with weight loss..if the patient can tolerate it that is..Of course my back up plan is as always staying with a healthy low carb high fat diet and getting moderate exercise a few days a week..

Still sticking to a low carb high fat diet. I shed two more pounds in December. I still have a ways to go. I would like to lose 25 additional pounds this year.
Slow and steady wins the race.
