Electronic Cigarettes

12 years ago 0 2778 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Some researchers here were doing a study on e-cigs.  The had volunteers do some breath tests and then had them smoke different e-cigs with different nicotine levels in them for about 5 minutes.   On their lasd drag, they would inhale and blow out the vapors into a glass vessel I had made for them.  The researcher then extracted the ingredients of the vapors and analyzed it.  They also did this with cigarette smoke.  I think that they were trying to see what was in the second hand smoke from the cigarette and compare the results with the vapors from the e-cigs.  I'll have to check to see what the results were and let you know.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

12 years ago 0 11226 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Electronic cigarettes have not been designed to help people quit smoking and they have not been proven to be a safe and effective nicotine replacement therapy. They may pose risks such as nicotine poisoning and addiction to users.  The sale of the e-cigarette is not legal in Canada. Smokers wanting to use nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) to quit should consider approved and tested products (e.g. patch, gum, inhaler, or lozenge).

Thanks for your replies. I suppose it's a bit like the patches/cold turkey argument where some of us need a crutch to help us, whereas others can cope without. For the record, I quit using patches 6 years ago. And for any Newbies listening, believe it or not, it's been a long, long time since I even considered smoking.

Hi Mr Ed

I had thought about using them as an aid, but I really wanted to break the hand to mouth habit.  I didn't want to get addicted to doing something else.  I've also heard that people that never smoked in their life tried these electronic cigarettes, then started smoking because they felt they weren't getting anything from them.

I used the inhaler briefly in the beginning but found it just increased my cravings , at least psychologically, because the physical actions are just like smoking a cigarette.  I would imaging that the electronic cigarette creates the same associiation. I'm currently using the gum only and going down very gently (2 mg. per week) and that way my body hardly feels the withdrawl at each decrease because it's such a small amount.  The drawback is that it seems to take forever and I'd loike to just get it over with.

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I've been away for a while. Is anybody using them as an aid?
