Still here and have not had a single puff since the email!

Nice to hear from old friends, and some new ones.

It's funny how I have been so tolerant and calm during my first two weeks of stopping smoking. I have been a model of diplomacy, tact and consideration to other living things.............I just can't understand why only the dog will talk to me........if fact, everyone else in the house has apparently emigrated or left for destinations unknown. I occasionally find the odd note telling me to put my dirty laundry in the bin or to mow the grass, but I have no idea where these come from, or indeed, who has left them.

Seeking some company, I popped out to the pub the other evening. It is a thriving place, usually milling with people. The landlord looked at me as I walked into the bar and started to sob quietly into his hands, he was muttering something about people being driven away by a monster and not being able to pay the bills.

The economy in the local area seems to have taken a nose-dive. As I walk past shops and businesses, they seem to pull down the shutters and hang closed signs in the window as I approach. People are obviously scared, as I see them peeking out from behind curtains, looking for all the world as if they have spotted a crazed lunatic with a fire axe.

Still, I'm happy. I've all but stopped coughing and wheezing in the mornings. My sense of smell has returned and I can now tell the difference between a fine red wine and the washing-up water. Things taste like they did when I was a child and I have not had to go to the cash-point for ages.

Oh...........gosh, all my family have just re-appeared.......they are staying strange things like "welcome back", and "its nice to get a human being back", and my wife has just kissed me and given me a hug! Can't imagine what has been going on

Thanks for the support. Coping fine this time and have absolutely no desire to smoke again.......I just keep reading the email.

The only downside at the moment is the horrendous cough, but frankly I am just looking at it as the repair process happening and clearing out the rubbish from my lungs. Brent

Hi Brentw1,

So glad that your kids persuaded you to try again. I had a feeling you had slipped back into  the habit when you stopped posting. I'm glad to see you back here again.

You might want go through all the my program stuff and tools again at the top of the page again. Focusing on your commitment to make this change is helpful.

Please stick around and keep on posting. Looking forward to seeing you beat this thing this time.

Hi Brent,

It sounds like these letters were received at just the write moment. In my oppinion, a good cry is often a catalyst for a big change!

There is nothing to feel embarressed about. I am honestly inspired by each member who keeps fighting even when they are having a difficult time. It takes a lot of courage and will power to keep going!

Hi Ashley, when I read the email, I felt humbled to be honest, and I cried for a long time. Not for me, but for the family. I also realised that I had been staying away from the SSC as I felt embarrassed about having started to smoke again. After all, I stopped for a number of years with the help and support from this forum.

The email is on my phone but all I have to do is think about it if I feel tempted to smoke. Funnily enough, I haven't had a single craving in the past five days, but I am not daft enough to think that it won't happen at some stage over the coming days and weeks.

What I do know however, is that the desire to stop smoking for good is much, much more powerful than the desire to light up again........and I intend to keep it that way this time.

I would re-assure you all however (those of you who can remember my posts from years ago) that my sense of humour has become even more off-beat and that I am bound to start writing stories again, after all, I am the mad englishman

Aw Brent, you made me cry!

Beautiful, thanks for sharing. How did you feel reading it?

If you are not able to keep this letter on hand I heard at sometimes can be helpful to carry a little token that reminds you of your kids. Hold on to it for dear life when the cravings hit. What do you think?
