Hi thisoldlady,

Sorry to hear of the COPD. That possibility was one of the reasons I chose to quit. I don't like being short of breath. I'm sure that quitting will help with your condition. I've been amazed at how much more aerobic endurance I have since I quit.

We're all quit buddies here, in a way. Even though we have different quit dates, this is a group that gives support through out the process--thinking about quitting, to those first attempts, to passing those first milestones, to those long-term quitters who come back to help. If you post questions, rants, thoughts, etc. people will respond. You are not alone.

You will also most likely notice some people who are quitting right around the same time as you. When I quit, there were 2-3 people doing it around the saem time who were also frequent posters. It gave me kind of a sense of comradery.

You don't need to find one particular "buddy" to quit. Just work on quitting, and the buddies will arrive. Wishing you positive thoughts as your quit date approaches.

Hey Sherry!!!

Welcome back!!!  You have given yourself some time to prepare for your quit since October and I did read on your blog entry that you were going for a practice round today!  How did it go?  I hope your outcome was as good as you expected and you learned about some of your triggers!  This whole quitting process is about learning and preparing for dealing with this nasty addiction!  Education and preparation are two of the main ingredients to a successful quit.  The third is your desire... if your desire to quit is stronger than your desire to smoke, you WILL succeed!

With that said, continue your preparation by going through all the sessions in the Program and use the Tools section for further assistance!  This will be a really big help in learning how to deal with a lot of things you will b encountering on this journey.  If you have questions, please ask!  You have a bunch of new quit buddies here that are rooting for you and are willing to offer support and information every step of the way!  Also, if you have questions, check out the search function on the Forums home page.  There is a wealth of information here on the Forums that will give you lots to consider.  Read here and post often!

Good luck thsoldlady65 and welcome!

You have come to the right place; we can help you through this. Prepare by getting started on the program. The program is full of information that can get you started on the right track. Also, it's great that you are looking for a quit buddy - having social support while going through this is essential. Know that you can post here as much as you like and there will always be someone who will reply to you.

How else will you be preparing for your quit?

I also wanted to add that I am wondering if anyone would like to be a quit smoking buddy with me. I am looking for someone who I can get support from and also give support if needed.
I do not have a good support system at all and can also see this hampering my quit.

Hi I am back and this time I am on the right road.
My name is Sherry and I have a quit day of January 1,2013
I am 47 yrs old and have been smoking for 35 years give or take a few days.
My gift from the cigarettes to me is COPD. I was diagnosed last month but to be honest
I knew I had it before hand.  I just chose to ignore it and come up with any excuses I could
to cover it.
Like I said my quit day is set for 01/01/2013. A GREAT way to start a New Year and a New Life.
I will be using the patch and also I am going to be going to therapy and a group for DBT.
Wish me luck :)
