Hi everyone,

If you have input you would like to share on other features (not including the Online Indicatior and the Helpful points) please post your thoughts on the new discussion "Input On Site Design - Post all your thoughts here!" we would like this thread to focus solely on the Online indicator and Helpful points.

Thanks in advance!

Haha -  that's so funny Ashley - I never even noticed the yellow and green (online) monitor.  I pop on and off here and post away -  oblivious to the upgrades and changes you developers  have worked so hard to create!  But now that I understand the feature and your question regarding it - I love the 'live' version! Perhaps someone will take advantage (as Jim noted) of this feature and use it to PM someone online if they just need a bit of extra support in the here and now!
Also thanks for passing along the return to 'live chat' request to those that develop
All in all, it is SSC that has helped pull me out of my junkie thinking, realize my strengths and weaknesses regarding my addictions and begin to address the personality quirks that bar me from succeeding in other areas of my life.  So whatever features you are tweaking - I am good with it!  You are awesome and I Thank You for this site and the connections it has provided for myself and many of us here : )

Thanks for all your input everyone. We will be continuing to check this thread so please keep posting your thoughts.

Eyja, I will pass along your suggestion

In regards to the offline/online indicator I was reffering to the little light beside the members' username when you are looking at a discussion. When the person is logged in it turns green.

Hi Ashley,

I think that the "Find Helpful" feature is just right as it is. I don’t find it competitive at all and sometimes it is more than “Thank you” that I would like to say.

To clarify, when you talk about the Online/Offline indicator, I presume that it is the “dot” above a person’s details on the left-hand-side of all the posts? I have never seen anyone’s status as “online” – the dot is always orange and OFFLINE. I think it would be tremendously helpful to have an indicator with immediate effect as to when someone is online/offline. Living 9 hours ahead of most of the members I am usually posting when everyone is sleeping and would love to know if any members are logged in at the same time as me.

Hi Everyone : ) Thanks for posting this thread Ashley - it's great to get members' input on the site's features.  In terms of the 'helpful' comments, I agree that it seems competitive when members posts are rated and chocked up by the number of times someone is 'helpful'on the home page.  I believe that everyone who participates in these forums has something of value to contribute and I don't like the idea that someone's comment can be judged as more or less helpful than anyone else's.  However it is very nice to be acknowledged with a 'Thank you' at times.
In terms of the online monitor in the top right hand with 'Recently logged in members:',  I like the real time log in feature.
If I were permitted to add another site suggestion, it would be to reinstate the 'live chat' feature.  When someone is at a critical stage when they need support to help them get through a 'make it or break down and light up' junkie thinking moment - there is nothing more effective than to have the live support  of a caring SSC member. Live Chat was a great feature that SSC used to have and is reportedly missed by many a veteran member.

Hi Workin' and Snice!

I think that the online indicator Ashley is talking about is the "Recently logged in members:"  in the right hand corner above.  There is another online indicator or block above that tells how many "guests" are browsing the site without actually logging in.  If you look at the avatars of the recently logged in members every now and then, you'll notice when new members log in.
