Hey Petya!!!

Congratulations!  You are now past week 2, Heck Week!!!  Way to go!  I hope that you rewarded yourself well over the weekend for your major accomplishment!

The episode that you described has been experienced by many here in the first few weeks of quitting and is not uncommon.  Smoking dreams are also very common!  I still have a smoking dream every now and then and they always wake me up!    Fortunately, they are only dreams and after few deep breaths and a glass of water it's back to dream land.

Hang in there and keep taking it one day at a time!  I'm sure that there are other threads here on the Forums that discuss anxiety attacks and how to cope with them.  You might try using the search function on the Forum home page to look up the posts.

It may not seem like it right now, but soon, the anxiety episodes, cravings and weird feelings will weaken and eventually go away!  Freedom from smoking is the most wonderful gift you will ever receive, but may be the hardest to attain.  Just keep going one day at a time... the prize is worth every difficult episode you fight through!

Dear Petya,

These 'cravings' will continue to catch you out at really odd times.  The one you had was probably ( as Vincenza said ) caused by your body affecting your nervous system.  I had huge anxiety-type attacks....just like you describe.... at really weird times, at night as well.
I used to get back into bed and use my relaxation tapes to get back to sleep.

I was very scared the first time they happened, as I had never experienced anything like it, but gradually they lessened in length and strength.  Quite frankly, there were so many weird things that happened to my body when I quit, that I just added them to the list.
Do see your doc if anything becomes too big to handle.

Just be aware that your addiction (caused by the chemical imbalance) is screaming out for you to give in and stop your quit.....but you are not going to do that and winning over the weird symptoms will give you power.  I can't tell you when the weird things will stop, as everyone is different, just know that it will all become better in time.  Quitting is not a fast process, but it is manageable and possible.

Stay Strong!  Never Look Back!  The Future is Ahead!

Hi Petya,

I'm curious to know if other members have experienced similar anxiety at night.  How have the past couple days been for you?

Although it's difficult to say what may have caused this for you, the chemicals in tobacco smoke have an affect on your entire central nervous system. Because these chemicals have been messing with your nervous system, quitting can cause a feeling of nervousness, which sometimes lasts for a few days.

Have you tried relaxation techniques, such as deep breathing and gentle exercise? Physical activity can also be helpful in expending that extra anxious energy.

If you have a symptom that persists or seems worse than you expected, you should consult your health care practitioner.
Wishing you good luck in your quit!

Hello everyone.

3 days ago i stopped my nicotine replacement therapy and i was feeling pretty well during the day. I almost didn't have any cravings and i was so happy about it. But last night I woke up and had an enourmous craving. It was like it started in my dream and the problem is I can't really describe it to you but i will try. I felt like i had a panic attack or a nervous breakdown. It was really scary. I felt like I am on the edge. This lasted maybe 1 hour then I got out of bed, walked to the other room and then back to bed and fell asleep. But the problem is that i haven't experienced anything similar in my whole life. Has anyone of you experienced something like that ? Is this normal ? I thought that things like these may happen but when i am awake during the day not while i am asleep.....
