Hi LisaChick,

Congratulations on your decision to quit. I hope you stick around here, read frequently, and post as needed. For me, the quit meter has been highly rewarding. Seeing the nonsmoking days accumulate along with the money saved and the extra days/ hours of life helps me to feel like I'm getting/ earning something, instead of having given up something.

Hi, Lisa.  I myself went through the program materials and even printed them out.  I found that the reward section was especially soothing because it suggested little ways that you could reward yourself as you went along.  You write your own ideas in.

I prepared by having time that I knew I wouldn't have a lot of mental demands on me because I assumed that my brain would be reacting.  I also tried to sleep more and eat better.  Exercise is also helpful as stress relief and distraction.

Believing that you are doing something helpful and healthy for yourself is important instead of thinking that you are depriving yourself of something.

The psychological habit is harder I think at least for me.  I have a therapist.  But I also use journal writing to keep track of moods and progress.  I've written more during this period than any other period even if it may not be something I reread, it is a practice that helps me stay on track.

Hi Lisa

Welcome,

We are all hear to support you.  I have only been a member for just over a month, but find it a great support group, it is very motivating to read of other success and also the challenges and what strategies were used to overcome slipping.

Welcome Lisa!

Congrats on setting a quit date. Also, good for you for looking for information prior to starting your quit. The more you prepare the better. Take full advantage of this site; work on the program, use the tools and post often in the support group. Ask lots of questions and search the forums for information you need. You are not alone in this.

Looking forward to reading more from you.
