Hey Valic--I undertand what you are groing through--I am a stay at home mom to 4 girls--including a red-headed 2 year old---who acts just like you would imagine a red-headed two year old to act.  I am always telling myself, especially when my tween girls are fighting or whining about all of the things they just HAVE to have---that even if I smoke a cigarette, they will still be annoying. I just take deep breaths, sometimes walk away, or do what they do to me--roll my eyes and say WHAT-EVERRR. Somehow I am making it through this and you will too!

Great work Valic!

Sounds like you handled that tough withdrawal symptom perfectly! So impressed that you were able to keep your cool and take deep breaths.  The visualization you are doing with the demon is geniuse too. Sounds like you are a natural at self awareness and management. Would you like a job as a Health Educator Keep it up and you will be through the rough part in no time.

Hey Valic!!!

Nice save!!!  Coming here and looking for responses to your posts, as well as posting how you are coping is a great distraction!  I did it for months!  Back then, there were a few more of us on the site who checked in daily and sometimes hourly for updates on our fellow quit buddies!  I'm hoping that it once again gets to that point, as I feel that it was really beneficial to all of our success defeating the demon!

I'd also recommend that you continue on with all the milestones in the Program, as they will help you to better prepare for that next big attack from the nico-demon!  Stick close and yell when you need us!

Thanks! Yes I know I am not alone it helps alot to know that. I have been here before and know I just need to push on. One day or minute at a time if thats what it takes. Well I figured out what reward to give myself for not caving to the crave. I made my favorite lunch grilled cheese and soup. And I didn't care that it was summer time or that it was hot out lol.  Now I am going to take my two little ones for a nice bike ride on their trikes and hopefully they will go down for a nap.  Thanks again for being there for me, keep on fighting! ~Valic

Hi Valic

Good for you for not giving in to your craving!  I also had a hard time during the first few weeks, and wanted to give in everytime my two boys started arguing or kicking up a fuss (they're 6 & 10)  But having a smoke won't make your children do what you want, or behave any better. They're so young, they have no idea what you're going through or what you're feeling.  With mine, I can at least use "if you act up, I'm going to start smoking again"  I feel terrible when I have to say this, but when I say this they know I'm serious and have to pitch in and try to make it a bit easier for me to cope with the cravings.  When you find it unbearable, you need to find something to distract yourself such as logging in here like you did today!  Maybe try doing something different with the kids that you don't normally do.  I try to avoid anything that I used to associate with smoking.  If you need that 5-10 minute break, a little TV won't hurt them.  Make yourself a tea and sit outside in the sunshine and enjoy it!

Take care and hang in there!  You're not alone in this.

Hi I am a stay at home mom with a 2 yr old and a 3yr old. I am on day 3 of my quit and I am deperetly trying to hang in! Usually when the kids have snack I go out for my break. Well snack time and I am having a really hard time saying no to myself. That is why I am here. I figure if the kids are distracted for all of 10 minutes  instead of smoking come in here and blog. Its just so hard when toddlers won't listen and all I want to do is have a few drags to calm myself down. I don't even know how  I am going to reward myself today for not giving into this craving or screaming at my kids which is what I really want to do. That is what has undid me in other quits because I take my stress in the form of yelling out on everyone! But this time I did not. When I reached my boiling point I stopped put on the tv for the little ones, (yes I know not the best thing but its all I have right now) walked away and came on this site. Now I am deep breathing and counting to ten slowly, letting out each breath slowly. Letting all my muscles relax and letting the world come back into focus instead of seeing red. The demon is still there but not as bad. Now I am imagining the demon on my shoulder and I flick him away with my finger. Ok I CAN do this one crave at a time. Thanks everyone!!!! Keep on beating the demon, ~Valic
