Prayer for a Friend

I thought of you so much today
I went to God in prayer,
To ask Him to watch over you
And show you that I care.
My prayer for you was not for rewards
That you could touch or feel,
But true rewards for happiness
That are so very real.
Like love and understanding
In all the things you do,
And guidance when you need it most
To see your troubles through.
I asked Him for good health for you
So your future could be bright,
And faith to accept life's challenges
And the courage to do what's right.
I gave thanks to Him
For granting my prayer
To bring you peace and love.
May you feel the warmth in your life
With God's blessings from above.

SANSKRIT PROVERB (PRAYER)
Look to this day
This very life of life
In its brief course lie all
The realities and verities of existence
The bliss of growth
The splendor of action
the glory of power--
For yesterday is but a dream
And tomorrow is only a vision
But today, well lived
Makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well, therefore to this day

breather, I'm taking the moment to apologize. I apologize. I did notice about two weeks ago that you did post the long version of the Serenity Prayer. I was not paying attention at first and reposted it.

It's the first puff that gets you hooked is another way of saying N.O.P.E. (Not One Puff Ever). This slogan helps to simplify quitting. Just as it is often overwhelming to think about doing something for a lifetime instead of a day, it can be just as overwhelming to think about recovery in terms of giving up cartons and packs. Luckily, we don't have to think big. All we have to do is think about not having just one little puff.

I think it's true what they say:
Life really is a journey--
and it's not always easy to know
which maps to trust
or what to pack for the trip.

But whatever the weather,
wherever the road leads,
I think the best possible
traveling advice would be this:
Bring a friend.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.

Another slogan:

"If you do what you always did, you'll get what you always got."

This is a 12 Step slogan that reminds us that different results are only possible when there has been a behavior change. If we do the same things over and over again, then we should always expect the same results. It goes with the saying that 'insanity is doing the same things over and over again and expecting different results'. When a particular tactic has failed a number of times, it may be time to try something different.

PETTINESS PRAYER

Keep us, oh God, from pettiness.
Let us be large in thought, in word, in deed.
Let us be done with fault finding & leave off self-seeking.
May we put away all pettiness & meet each other face to face,
without self-pity & without prejudice.
May we always be patient,
never hasty in judgement & always tolerant.
Teach us to put into action our better impulses,
straightforward & unafraid.
Let us take time for all things; make us calm, serene & gentle.
Grant that we may realize it is the little things
in life that create differences,
That in the big things of life we are as one and
may we strive to touch and to know the great common heart of us all.
And oh God, let us not forget to be kind.

breather, here's the long version of the Serenity Prayer by Reinhold Neibuhr.

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time;
Enjoying one moment at a time;
Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace;
Taking, as He did, this sinful world
as it is, not as I would have it;
Trusting that He will make all things right
if I surrender to His Will;
That I may be reasonably happy in this life
and supremely happy with Him
Forever in the next.
Amen.

I love all the prayers you all have shared..I do have one other one that reminds me that the Lord is with us through everything,every second of every day..
                                       The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:he leadeth me beside the still waters.He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death; I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over.Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

I decided to go with this, The Eleventh Step Prayer, instead of the one I was going to go with today, because this prayer reminds me of Marivi's.

Lord, make me a channel of thy peace--that where there is hatred, I may bring love--that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of forgiveness--that where there is discord, I may bring harmony--that where there is error, I may bring truth--that where there is doubt, I may bring faith--that where there is despair, I may bring hope--that where there are shadows, I may bring light--that where there is sadness, I may bring joy. Lord, grant that I may seek rather to comfort than to be comforted--to understand, than to be understood--to love, than to be loved. For it is by self-forgetting that one finds. It is by forgiving that one is forgiven. It is by dying that one awakens to eternal life. Amen
