Quit date May 21, 2012 - any suggestions

Thank you working on it!  Yes - today is the day!  Do you know why its cold liquids instead of just room temperature?

Looks like tomorrow is the big day. Keep lots of fruit juice, cold water, and protein foods on hand. In those first few days, the cold liquids really hit the spot in ways you can't even imagine yet. I still get that "aah" sensation a few times a day from a glass of cold water or juice.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hello Mommy of 2!  Congratulations on quitting, it's tough with little ones around.  When I quit my daughter was 5, I was a stay at home mom too.  It was tough on my daughter at times, my husband quit the day after I did.  But we made sure to do family rewards and had as much fun as we could.  I just posted an article tonight on how I quit smoking on my website, you may want to check it out.  Water therapy was my best friend for awhile, hot showers complete with tears.  Keep smiling, be gentle and take care of yourself, you can do this.

My main motivation at first was that I never wanted my daughter to smoke, she used to imitate me smoking when she was little and that really got to me.  She will be 16 this year and has never smoked and doesn't plan to, success!  It's really great that she doesn't remember me as a smoker and can't imagine it...I love it!  :)

Dear Mommy of 2,

You are doing the best thing....lots of preparation.  I'm so glad you have come on to this site ahead of time.  By the time you quit we will know you and vice versa.  You have already found other mommies in the same boat as you......all that is so much help when you quit.  Oldies like me can advise, but it's not quite the same as swapping notes with someone else with kids throwing tantrums.

Talking of tantrums....you will feel like having a few of your own once you quit.     If you have prepared well, you will have coping strategies in place...deep breathing, sucking air through a straw, walking away, drinking iced water....there are so many.  Find the ones which work for you and stick to them.

I love your expression,  "Fire in my gut"   that is exactly right.  Keep stoking that fire and determination to win this battle against the Nicodemon!  That is what makes a good quit...determination to forbid anything to get in the way of your quit.  You will find ways to do it if you are strong!  Be positive in your outlook...and remember - "Whatever it takes, just don't smoke!"

I did not quit early enough....smoked for 40 years....it is such a huge regret.  Do not be like that, you CAN do this now and have such a wonderful new life.  You will be free!

Love Lolly.

Hey Mommies!!!

It will REALLY help y'all to be here and help each other out!  Having someone to talk to who is going through the same thing at about the same time was very important for me at the beginning of my quit and for many month and now years!  The support was a huge part of my success, as was the great info in the Program.  The real part of being successful was definitely making up my mind and wanting my quit more than anything else in the world!

So, Mommy of 2, that's my suggestion!  Prepare well and start psyching yourself up for the big day!  Quitting is the best thing that you can do for yourself, not only for your health, but for your pocketbook, too!     The next best suggestion I have is to try to keep a Positive Mental Attitude throughout the journey!  Self talk like I AM going to quit this time instead of I'm going to "try" to quit!  You CAN do this, so start telling yourself that starting now!  We're all rooting for y'all!!!

I am the same as you Tired Mommy.  I tried to quit out of the blue before, but never really had that fire in my gut.  Only once did that happen and I was in my early 20's, dating a smoker who deliberately set about to make sure I didn't quit.  But now, I have the fire in my gut, my husband doesn't smoke, and neither do any of my close friends or family.  I, too, am the type who have to prepare as much as possible.  Again, thank you!

Thank you Pruettsgirl.  I will definitely take you up on that offer.  With myself, I knew if I stood a chance I had to set a quit date and work up to quitting.  I had tried just quitting out of the blue before but it didn't work.  I am going cold turkey so you might be hearing from me!

Mommy of 2--
I smoked 20-30 a day, for 16 years. I tried to quit twice before--but wasn't really determined--just figured I would try it out, This time was different, I prepared myself and knew this was it.

Mommy of 2,

I smoked 1 1/2 - 2 packs a day for 20 years....so we are pretty close to the same.  There were times that I "cut back" but then I never made that final step of quitting.  I guess I'm just one of those people that have to make up my mind in the moment and do it.  I didn't set a quit date...I just quit.  I still had 3 packs of unopened cigarettes.  They went in the trash and I'm loving my decision.

If you EVER need to talk....just let me know.
