January Quitters Kick off!

12 years ago 0 11214 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hi NelskiBL,

Congratulations on getting halfway through Hell Week! It sounds like you have already made some very positive lifestyle changes. It certainly seems that smoking no longer seems to fit with your goals and values; good for you for gathering the courage to battle this addiction. I can see you have already started the program; this is important as preparation and support are keys to a successful quit.

Be sure to continue to read and post here. We will help you get to where you want to be.  It won't be easy but it will probably be the most important battle of your life.  So, how are you feeling so far?

Hi folks, I had my last cigarettes on Monday morning (9th January). I had two ciggies left in my ten pack and smoked one before I got on the motorway, and one when I got off. That'll be that then.

I quit drinking 18 months ago (I was too heavily into that) and I figure I can now tackle my other poison.

I have been exercising for over a year now, and have run a couple of 10Ks in the last year. I want to improve my fitness - I feel I have plateau'd and that my breathing and lung-capacity need to improve to keep improving. A half-marathon this year and a full marathon in the next couple of years.

I was not a heavy smoker, having the odd day without cigarettes but probably averaging five a day. Out with the lads, or visiting friends I could smoke many more but I wasn't one of those people who reach for them first thing.

Had a few cravings this last few days, but I'm coping well. I do fear being a bit casual and thinking - ach, one or two won't hurt and I can abstain again. A big day out with the lads this weekend to the rugby - that'll be a challenge. But I'll go to the gym in the morning to remind myself of my main motivation.

If you are thinking of quitting smoking in 2012, then you have come to the right place. Take a look around here and read all you can. Come with a positive attitude and the knowledge that many here have done this before you, and it is totally doable. Think of the health you will gain, the time you will save, the money you will save, the life you will recover. Think of the freedom you will have. It is all here, welcome to the SSC and learn all you can, prepare yourself, get your head in the right frame of mind, prepare to do battle if you will, to beat the addiction of nicotine once and for all.
A New Year is always about a new beginning, its a great time to start something new. So come one and all, join us, this is the place where it is great to be a quitter! Our motto is Not One Puff Ever, NOPE, don't let cigarettes run your life any more! Its time to kick 'em to the curb!
Welcome!
