I was able to take my car to see my kids, the only problem that we procured from this venture was we now need to purchase a new tire. The car made it there and back with no problem, and i didn't even light 1 cigarette! Thanks to you all i'm remaining smoke free..

Kristen:

I know its hard when friends let us down. But, as I am sure you know, people, be they friend or foe, have a tendency to fall short of our expectations.  I think it is written somewhere in the genes of the human race.  This is a particularly disturbing failure because you are separated from your children.  One would hope that your friend would be cognizant of that fact, but apparently that is not the case.

You are wise not to push the car that distance, the outcome may produce an even more disappointing situation.  However, it might be useful for you to remember, that although you are seeking cessation for yourself, the long range effect of your efforts will be that your children will have you around for a lot longer.   And that is the most important goal.  The longer you preserve your health, the longer your children will have their Mother in their lives.  This weekends memory will fade shortly, but the knowledge that you have taken hard action against this addiction and prevailed will remain for a lifetime.  Let the short term stress dissipate and take heart in the long term objective...

That does sound harsh! It is a long time since seeing your babies; I am sorry to hear of your trouble in trying to work things out. Is there something you can do to avoid exploding? I don't think you better light anything up around there with the risk of explosion! (did ya crack even a tiny smile?)  Can you think of something constructive that you can do to work toward your goals?  One good thing in your life that you're doing  right now is racking up those Quit stats!  If you can make it through your trials without smoking now, just think how nice you will feel to be free of this monkey on your back!

It's just hard, ya know? Their father already took custody away from me and I haven't seen them since Christmas. I already missed my youngest sons first birthday and my oldest third birthday. I don't know how much more stress i can take before i explode!

Hi Kristen;  You know Willis has good words of advice here.  However this weekend turns out (sorry about that friend of yours bailing on her offer to share her car!)  and, even if you can't get away to see your kids this weekend, lighting up now would not fix the situation!  And think of the money you can begin to save toward upgrading that vehicle of yours if you stay away from smoking for good! Then you won't need to rely on friends (who bail!) for doing the important things in your life. Hang tough honey! Eya

Good morning Kristen, I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. I know you must be dissappointed with situation and your friend but remember that smoking won't do anything to make the situation better. In fact it would make it far worse and would have far reaching implications for your health and your life long after this set back has passed from memory. Life has its ups and downs Kristen whether you smoke or not.

You are doing so well we are all proud of what you have accomplished.

So, It's 4am and my "friend" is supposed to be bringing me her car to go see me children, which i might add live 3 and a half hours away, She waits until 4:15am to tell me that i can't use her car... That's all fine and dandy because this isn't the first time she's waited until last minute to say "no"... It's just the fact that she's supposed to be my friend and she's always finding an excuse for me not too. I have a car, that's not the point. My car is 20 years old and has 209,000 miles on it and i don't think it's reliable to make that trip... Really hard for me to bite the craving on this one. But i'm trying...
