Thank You Bill and Josie for your 'humble' and joyful replies. I've been called a 'master of defense mechanisms' and give the impression that what other's think of me doesn't matter. In all honesty, I do feel hurt at times when slighted in any little way at all. Now that I know that it's all about pride and ego those things have been dealt with. I want acceptance as an ex-smoker and that is very important to me.
And Bill, being back where I started is exactly right when I wasn't able to handle being 'not one of them.'
Being 'one of them' now means not smoking and smelling bad and being repulsive to the 'clean ones' which includes all my six kids. So, I'm on a roll with thanks to this great place and Real People. Kudos to You.
You don't strike as the type to care what others think? You strike me as a very determined individual with a goal and reward in mind! It is amazing to hear and see how others will react when someone quits. They dwindle away, they no longer make contact, they can't talk to you...my "humble" opinion is: get new friends or rethink your friendship! If you have to stay away from the smokers for a while..that's ok..they should understand.
This choice you have made is nothing but positive, motivating, clear, and commendable..you can't go wrong and the benefits alone should have people cheering in your corner!
Keep at it and know that we are always here to support you!
Here's a problem for me. I have some acquaintances who would rather fight than quit and they don't want to see me do it. My problem is Attitude. I mean, how do I maintain my equilibrium without being a self-rightous, self-centred showoff when I do quit and end up walking around like a proud peacock with a bad attitude?
I've had to cut off communication with my only sister who insists on sucking and puffing on her smoke while we discuss my quitting or past quit. As somebody said in here, "My friends are still my friends," well I guess some 'friends' are not really that at all.
Somebody please talk to me about Attitude; it would help a lot.
