Resist those cabin-fever cravings!!  If you feel the urge: 

DISTRACT yourself from the craving.
If you find yourself in a situation you can't leave and you get a craving, distract yourself from the craving by: Thinking about something else, like your Benefits of Quitting (or how much money you’re saving every week, how your body is healing itself). Doing something else to distract yourself like drinking water or deep breathing exercises. Thinking about an upcoming event in your life, such as a vacation.

DELAY acting on the craving
If you can't keep your mind off it, then make a deal with yourself that you will wait 5 minutes before you give into the craving. The craving will usually pass in a couple of minutes anyway. If you delay, the craving will go away.

Use SELF TALK
A craving may be accompanied by negative thoughts about your ability to resist it. Use positive self talk statements to combat your negative thoughts.

hang in there you are on day 4 and doing great.  We all got stir crazy and it is even worse when you don't feel well and there is someone special waiting to be seen.  You having a cig won't help, it will only make it worse.  What I have been doing this time is I take a deep breath and think about what that puff would cost me.  So not worth it.  It would start off with a couple puffs, then the lies and the rationalizations of why I smoke and it is so dumb.  Then it would lead to a full cig and then what the heck just as well get a pack and then I would be smoking again.  I would have to come here again and fess up, I would smell again, I would get my cough back in a few days and I would feel shame once again.  So not worth it.  It is better to get though these next few day smoke free.  Hang in there you are doing it.

I'm finding it really tough today!! I still have a cold and haven't been able to see my sis or nephew. I'm stuck indoors and can't go out but want to, actually getting really stir crazy. I'm just so frustrated and I know a cig won't help but grrrr

I just thought of a few possible rewards for you, Paula.
Baby gifts. Something special you wouldn't have bought when you were spending so much on smoking. You already have so much you've saved by not smoking.
Also, how about setting up some kind of savings account for Jamie with the money you're saving? You could look at the balance every time you think you want to smoke.

Sitting in traffic was tough today, so I sang instead, loudly with the windows open!! Don't know what to do for a reward and when !! Have a cold so haven't been able to see my nephew yet!

You can get mentally prepared by reading all you can at this site. There are tons of great posts here full of good info to help you. It really does help to get your self prepared and try to stay as positve as possible!
Read, read, read,  that is my best advice! Post often too. Do whatever it takes to get yourself quit, it is soooooo worth the effort! You can do this!

Way to go, Paula! I think I remember you from a ways back. I used chantix when I quit and still believe it is a miracle drug. By the time I'd taken it for a week, when my quit day rolled around I'd already cut way down on the number of cigarettes I was smoking. I hope it's as useful to you as it was to me. Sounds like you've thought this quit through, which is also very helpful. Boy, it's going to be so nice to hug that little nephew, knowing you're not exposing him to any leftover smoke : )

Good work today, Paula. And very insightful of you to not be complacent! That nicotine addiction is tricky and will sneak up on you when you are feeling most in control of it. Are you doing the program? What helped you get through today? Feel free to start your Quit Meter with whatever date you want. It's very motivational to see your progress in black and white, so to speak!

Hi,
 
Thanks for your posts last night, I really was unsure as to what to do! When I got the news my nephew Jamie had been born and my sis was doing fine, I had one cig left in the pack and it went in the bin. I've been fine today and have been up to my grandmothers (heavy smoker) and was out for dinner with my boyfriend who smokes. He's on champix and has a quit date set for sunday.
 
I just thought I'd try it and see how it goes and I'm suprised at myself for doing so beautifully today. I'm not being complacent though, I know its tough and I have had to reign myself in from cravings a few times but I managed. I normally smoke about 25 a day so big change.
 
Anyways, thanks for your support as always and hopefully tommorrow is another success!
