I am sad today.  Karen was a fiesty quitter.  I originally joined in Sept. 2006 and knew Karen as Gonna Do It.  Karen, who kept a "crave cart" at work, and threatened to take a bit bite out of her steering wheel when the cravings got real bad.  The Cabanna boys, the firefighters, were all stop smoking techniques to keep our minds off the cravings.
We had fun, Gonna, Windy, Sparky, Jan58 and the myriad more quitters who fast became friends.
You will be sadly missed...

So sad. I came to love Karen. She had the most wonderful sense of humor and was  a warm, no nonsense person. I'm sorry she was taken from us so early, but it helps me to realize that she is no longer suffering. My condolences to her family. My father died of lung cancer toward the end of 1998, so I do have some insight into their pain.

This is sad news indeed.  It does seem that the best of us leave to soon.  Miss Marples was a fighter who showed great compassion and a care-giver who never allowed a soul give up on themselves.  Her presence here helped many grow strong.  She will be greatly missed from these pages.

I am so sorry to hear that MM had passed. I think she was the most postive person I have met on this site. The courage, the strength, the humor and sensitivity she brought were tremendous. My condoleances to her friends and family.

I first knew Karen as GonnaDoIt, and loved it when she changed her name to Miss Marple, the intrepid detective in the Agatha Christie books. Like the real Miss Marple, Karen was intrepid and strong and funny and inspirational for all of us. She fought the biggest battle with such strength and grace. We will miss her, but we will always have her with us in our hearts.

I had been wondering how MM was doing and am deeply saddened by this news. I still maintain that the best people leave us far too early. When I first came to this site Miss Marples had I think 20 days into her quit. Two things that amazed me were that (A) somebody could actually be smoke free for 20 days and (B) actually seem happy about it. MM had the idea of the "crave cart" where you could stock it with anything you would need in the line of quit aids candies , drinks , etc. She was a great help and support to many of us. My condolences to her family. Don

I just talked with Gary, MM/Karen's husband.  He said she passed last night around 7:00.  For those of you who don't know her, she was wonderful.  She stood about 5 feet and was a police detective.  Karen leaves behind a husband and 5 children. Karen was 50 years old, so young!!  She fought COPD for as long as I knew her and then she developed lung cancer.

Karen and I came to this site about the same time.  She was know as Hurska, but changed to Gonna Do It for a long time and them came back as Miss Marples.  She kept all of laughing and sometimes a tear or two.  She fought so hard to quit, really hard. I don't how far you can go back in the archives but some of her post were would make you laugh so hard.  She is one of the reason I kept trying so hard to quit.  Help me guys, I thinks she is responsible for the cabana boys.

She is now at peace with the Lord and other wonderful angles. Karen fought this will her heart and soul. She is going to missed doesn't even express my feeling.  I was blessed to have met her and Gary.  God Bless all of you.

Hello Rock,

Miss Marples was indeed an extremely cherished member of this group. Her positive energy and continuous support touched us all.  Our deepest condolences go out to her friends and family. I encourage those who would like to share a nice memory of Miss Marples to do so.

Sorry to hear about your friend and a good member of SSC.

I didn't know Miss Marple, but had recently went to HOF September 2009, and read her story.

She will be missed.

Miss Marples long and courageous fight with cancer ended yesterday.  She was a cherished member of this site.  When I quit 2+ years ago, she was part of the group that kept tabs on me and helped me get to where I am today.  I'll miss her humor and stories.  Heaven has a new angel looking down on us today.  My deepest condolences to her family.  May the cherished memories of Miss Marples comfort her family and all of us who knew her.
