Twain,

You sound like you have a great positive outlook on your quit  This is so important.

I also love being a non-smoker.  It is so liberating, we are one step closer to freedom

Keep the quit!

I love the fact that I'm a nonsmoker.  I know that means that I will put on weight shortly afterwards as that always happens to me.  That has happenned many times in the past and has yet again.  Big surprise, not.  5 pounds gained since I quit, so what.  I will lose it, I always do.  I always have.  This is to be expected.  It's a small price to pay for a big gain.  I say, bring it on.  I can handle it.  I know just what to do.  I've done this many times and I won't let this be the end to my quit.  Lotsa of love going out to you all.  I know it's hard but it's all worth it.

Congrats on starting your journey!  There is lots to learn but also a lot to be proud of!  The first time I quit I did the patch for all 10 weeks and I found it very helpful.  Do whatever works and don't get discouraged or be hard on yourself!  Take it one day at a time and pretty soon you won't need the NRT just don't get down on yourself for needing a little help....sometimes we all need a little help.  Have a great day!

Hi Twain, I am a new non-smoker too. Going on my second day today (again), but that's o.k. I just seem to have a hard time on the third day. I decided to get the patches and use 2mg nic gum if I have really bad cravings. I'm glad I found this site. Telling my adult kids (who have never smoked) that I'm quiting is o.k. but if you relapse they are very discouraging to me. So I find I'd rather not say to them I'm quitting. I think it takes the support of people who know what it's like.

Dear Twain,

Congratulations on taking the decision to quit!  It is quite a committment!

Please do not give yourself a hard time about using NRT.  Remember they are a tool, a help, NOT a substitute for cigarettes.  They can make a huge difference in whether your quit succeeds or not.

Many of us on this site used NRT.  In my case I used everything I could think of to help me to quit.  This site was the most helpful, along with a determination to kill off my Nicodemon.

Do as your doctor says and stick with the programme!  Stay Strong!

Thank you for your concern Helena.  I have spoken with my doctor and he is thrilled that I've finally done it.  He was getting tired of talking about it with me.  I can be really dense.

Members,

Thanks for sharing your experiences!

Talk to you doctor when using NRT. They will be able to advise you on how to best use them when you stop smoking.

Welcome, Twain.  NRT's are a great tool to help you though the rough times.  While you are on them you are learning not to light up, you are getting use to doing things with our a cigarettes, you are learning and they are a tool to help you though.  Keep posting and reading.

Hi Twain,

Welcome to the forums and congratulations on your decision to quit smoking!

Its great that you have found a method that is working for you. Take it one step at a time. Right now you're giving up cigarettes, and the next step for you will be to give up nicotine. You're doing what works you, and I know you'll be able to achieve your goals.

Use the program and post in the forums to help you quit smoking.

What are some of your goals?

Hi Twain,

Welcome!  Congrats on deciding to quit.  I have appreciated all the support SCC has given to me in the past 18 days.  Read the old posts ~ there is some really valuable information stored away there.  I'm using NRT too and it seems to have been helping me overcome the habit of smoking.  In due time, I will be ready to say goodbye to the NRT.  One day at a time.

cheers
~Alice
