Time To Face the Music

Yeah, so the primary care physician says the official diagnosis for what's wrong with my throat is: laryngopharyngeal reflux with abnormal epiglottis. These problems can cause asthma, sleep apnea, choking, etc. Now how did these things get out of whack? (Weight problem? Smoking) Hopefully, the ENT (ears, nose, throat specialist) can fix the problems. I'll see him again next week.

That is great news Brenda! Hopefully, the ENT will find something minor and easily treatable. Also, congratulations on the weight loss - that is amazing!
Keep the quit

Okay. I don't know what went wrong. The person who did the spirometry test told me that the test showed a mild obstruction. I just spoke to my doctor. She says the report from the pulmonolgist says I have no obstruction, but that I probably do have asthma and allergies. Further, she is sending me back to the ENT (otolaryngoglogist[sic]) because last year he said that my epiglottis does not close correctly, sometimes not at all. That can also be causing the feeling I have of having something in my throat often and it may obstruct my breathing from time to time. The ENT wanted me to lose weight to see if that would help. I've lost nearly 40 pounds and it hasn't. So I'll probably need surgery. But I do NOT have COPD.

Hey, thanks guys! I am feeling a lot better. I realize I can live a very long time with this. After all, the printout did say "mild obstruction", probably mucus. I clear my throat a lot. Some of that mucus is probably actually draining from my nose. I use Ocean a lot, too. I have bad allergies and ezcema. I'm allergic to everything. However, all of the problem isn't cause by allergies. So I'm just going to focus on taking are of myself. I have a good start. You guys have been absolutely invaluable over the past year. It's like I'm a new me. One who actually cares about her body. My self-esteem is much higher. I can't say thank you enough.
