Congratulations Karren, you have a great memory attached to the financial savings associated with your quitting.

As a pro at this, any idea where mine's gone? (scratches head)

That's great Karren!

Another great reminder why quitting smoking is so worth it.

Your daughter is a lucky girl!  No only does she have smart, healthy parents she has also got to travel due to your quit!  Great!

Karren, that's a fantastic story and a lovely tribute to your daughter's future.  I'm sure every experience she's having is that much richer knowing what it comes from and what a true gift you are giving her.

Thanks for sharing this!

Many of my friends on here will know both my husband and I quit at more or less the same time. We both continue to bank our smokes money every week as if we were still buying the cigarettes. I bank £60.00 a week, which in US dollars is approximately $86.00 ( isn't that scary??) Even though the price of cigarettes has risen astronomically since we both quit, we bank what we 'used' to spend on cigarettes.
You may also know, our daughter has had to spend a year abroad as part of her University degree in Modern Foreign Languages/French/German. And had it not been for our combined 'smokes' money, we doubt we could have afforded her to take this special opportunity offered on her course. All her European expenses have been paid for from that ex smoking money, flights, accomodation, books etc, and both Paul and I have admitted that if we were still smokers we could not have found the extra money needed, especially as I have heard the price of a pack of cigarettes is now over £6.00 ($9.00)!
Thank goodness we quit when we did, besides the obvious health and social benefits the financial benefits for us have been enormous, and we are able to give our daughter the opportunities she deserves rather than apportion our finances on our selfish habit.
