Thank you all for the warm welcome and support.  I have been busy working on it and should be joining you soon.  I have set June 2 as my quit date and will see you all then if not sooner.

Hi  Roses and Welcome.  You did this for 35 days. So you know the beginning.  This is not my first quit either.

Stay close, read, post and reply. The cravings will become urges.. get busy, use your plan for coping and saying NO

Write all the reasons down on a piece of paper, keep it near you and pull it out when you need it.

Best wishes, looking forward to getting to know you better

 Bonnie

Hello Roses  Yes you can stop smoking. It's coming to the realization that it is a choice and that you can stop at any time. Nobody said it would be easy but it is possible. Personally I was just tired of paying money for something that would eventually destroy me. What a sap I was. What a sucker! Well Roses they no longer get my hard earned cash. I was able to stop when I wanted to more than anything else and was willing to go through anything to be free. I'm free from nicotine addiction today and as long as I don't smoke that first one it isn't a problem. I have a new life now and with a little help so can you. You're the most important person here. breather

Hello Rose,

Welcome to our online support community and congratulations on making the decision to quit smoking. It sounds like you are ready and determined to make this quit stick!

You've already gotten some really great advice from your fellow members! Preparation is key as this is an addiction. You need to figure out how your going to deal with cravings and what new habit you'll replace smoking with. (The program will help you do all this.)

You'll also need to put into place a reward system. It should have three components: small one for after each craving, medium for the end of each smoke-free day and a bigger one for the end of each smoke-free week.

We're here for you if you have questions or need some feedback. We'll help you through this every step of the way and we'll help you do this once and for all!

Check back soon!

Hi Rose and welcome! Your story sounds so similar to my own. I was a smoker for 37 years and have now been quit for two years. I quit for much the same reasons as you. My health suddenly deteriorated, lots of breathing problems etc, and I really started to evaluate my life and how prescious life is.
I am almost 53 so not far behind you in that respect too. And I suddenly had all the consequences of smoking come to fruition. Rose, quitting is just the best thing ever. I have a new found freedom, I have more money, more time, and most of all the chance to stop any more damage being done to my very battered and abused lungs.

We cannot have smoked for as long as you and I have and not done any damage. However, by quitting now, you have the chance to not do any more damage, and maybe even improve your health.

This site is wonderful for moral support. The members here go out of their way to help someone quit, and there is always someone around to lend a hand- or an ear!

So good luck to you Rose, keep thinking of the positives. Prepare some distraction tools, and start looking forward to a smoke free life.
