Hi Rose and welcome! Your story sounds so similar to my own. I was a smoker for 37 years and have now been quit for two years. I quit for much the same reasons as you. My health suddenly deteriorated, lots of breathing problems etc, and I really started to evaluate my life and how prescious life is.
I am almost 53 so not far behind you in that respect too. And I suddenly had all the consequences of smoking come to fruition. Rose, quitting is just the best thing ever. I have a new found freedom, I have more money, more time, and most of all the chance to stop any more damage being done to my very battered and abused lungs.
We cannot have smoked for as long as you and I have and not done any damage. However, by quitting now, you have the chance to not do any more damage, and maybe even improve your health.
This site is wonderful for moral support. The members here go out of their way to help someone quit, and there is always someone around to lend a hand- or an ear!
So good luck to you Rose, keep thinking of the positives. Prepare some distraction tools, and start looking forward to a smoke free life.
