Approaching my 5km goal

Wow, Jazz that is awesome!! I really wish I could run, but I can't, arthritis in the knee's and hips from playing sports when I was younger. Just find that zone, I was never a good long distance runner, but one day in track practice, I got behind our best mile runner and paced him step for step, and ended up running a 5 minute mile, and the way he did it it was easy, it must be something about the rythmn or the pace you keep. Anyway I'm rambling. Good luck to you, I hope you make it.

Good on you - it's a huge hurdle to bypass any goal that involves aerobic activity after smoking, I feel your pain every time I get on the treadmill!!  Enjoy the journey and let us know when you crack the 5k barrier...

You go Jazz!!!  I don't think I would enjoy running, but sure do enjoy a good brisk walk.  Hubby and I went for a 2 mile walk yesterday and plan to push it a little more today.  We use to walk 3 or 4 miles a day, but with everything going on we will take what we can get for now.  Those of you just quitting or have quit walking is the best medicine you can get.  Get out there smell the fresh air and enjoy!!!

Ashley, probably the fact that I could never consider doing this when I was smoking, and was hesitant to try for quite a while afterwards. I needed to get my body in better shape before I tried. I probably would have collapsed after the first 50 ft.  I've been walking a lot, but only jogging for the past couple of months.  My lungs feels so much better now, that I wanted to challenge myself to complete the 5km.

Congratulations!  Jazz
That's great,  your lungs must be in pretty good shape.  I can walk 5 kl , and I can do 30 min on the elleptical  but I'm sure I can't run  3 or 4 kl.   Congrats again and keep on running.....it looks good on you.

Hi everyone.  Just to update you on my running goal - I've FINALLY surpassed the 3km hurdle (kind of like losing weight when you reach a plateau and can't get the scales to move).  I'm so pleased - I managed 4 km yesterday, with my 5 km goal now in sight. Not bad after 30 years of smoking!   I'm still hoping to run the 5km  for the MS Society in May.  Anyway, just wanted to share that....
