Congratulations Mike!
Quitting smoking is a wonderful decision. The best gift you can give to yourself. It is a hard but empowering process .
And if I can do it, you can too. I also smojked for 30 years and I am doing it!
Just make this a nonnegotiable decision. You can do it. This site was instrumental to my quit. I know it made all the difference.
So read and post as much as you need.
Grab your ice water, and take one smoking thought at a time!
Welcome to this site!

Hi, Mike.  You have really made the right decision to join this group and embark on this journey with others at your side.  You have to quit FOR yourself, but not BY yourself!  I smoked for 40 years, and struggled with quitting for the past six years, trying to do it on my own.  It's not easy, but it is very doable.  Use all the resources available here to learn about the addiction; it really helps!  Don't hesitate to ask for help when you need it; we all need help now and then!

Hey Big Mike!!!

Great to have you here!  Like Rock said... preparation is one key to success!!!  That and just downright wanting your quit more than anything else in the world right now!!!  Sometimes quitting takes more than one try, but if you want it bad enough, it will eventually stick!  Honest!

Distraction is another key to success!!!  You have to learn how to do everything all over again without smoking!  So, until  you do, you have to find ways to distract yourself.  I used this site and the forums as my distraction to keep me from smoking!  Consequently, I have read many, many posts here that really helped me change my mindset and overcome the addiction!!!  Power is knowledge and the more you know, the better equipped you are to succeed!

SO, read and learn and holler when you need advice!  We're all here routing for you!!!

Welcome BigMike! As you can see, there are alot of 'quitters' here! There is also alot of information in the threads here. Read all you can!  Quitting is hard, if you let it be hard. Try to be as positive as you can. I too, smoked for thirty seven years and I tried to quit soooo many times. I finally realized that I was an addict and had to treat myself as such.
Nicotine is a drug, one nasty one at that! Go through the programs and threads here, you will find how to prepare yourself, and how to get though the trying times. I know you can quit! Just keep on trying, your freedom awaits you!
