Thanks Jazz and Tresa and everyone else who chimed in. It is nice to be out of the woods, I've done a lot of difficult things in my life, but this by far has been the most difficult.

PB,
For me it wasn't so much that I didn't care to quit smoking.  I realize looking back how addictive nicotine and cigarettes are.  I remembered thinking that if I would ever quit I would never really be able to be myself when in fact it was exactly the opposite. When you look at most people out there I think your story is very similar.  It can take many tries or many years before we really say that we've had enough. It takes a leap of faith and determination to end this habit. The addiction is nasty, and until you are quit for a good amount of time you will never see what the addiction really did to us logically.  I think the great news is that you are quit now and that you are realizing how much better life is now sans cigarettes.  That is indeed something to be thankful for.

PB, isn't the light wonderful?  WOOHOO!  Your words have never been truer.  One day at a time, one hour at a time, one minute at a time.  Whatever it takes!  You have showed all of us that there are many battles we must win before we can win the war!  You've had challenges, but you perservered!  And look at you now!  255 smoke free days!  You have been an inspiration to so many of us!  Congratulations on your smoke free success!

Looking back over the early days...one minute, one hour, one day at a time is the thing that sounds out most loudly in my mind. Glad things have eased up for you, my friend!
