That's it, Lance. Hate that nicodemon. Look at what it has done to you. It supposed to be your friend, but used and abused you. Kick that demon to the curb.

This has turned in to a pretty rough day. All through my most excelent three hour workout I was thinking of smoking, wondering what I'm replacing smoking with to give me what smoking did, that make sense? When my wife and I quit years ago for 8 months we drank, well that's not an option today and wish it wasn't then. I relized not so long ago I have an addictive personality, work, excercise, alchohol, what ever nothing was ever enough or good enough. So I'm stuck here. Hating the nicodemon bad today.

Lance,
First off remember that you will have better relations with yourself and your son by quitting.  When I smoked I used to think everyone hated me so therefore I would drown myself with smoke. Now that I'm smoke free I realize that people do really like me when I can be who I really am, not controlled by the Nicodemon.  Your relationships will improve like you can't believe so the last thing you want to do in a touchy family situation is to light up.

As far as your question on when are we considered quit, the day we stop smoking we are quit.  But I think the question is how long does it take for when we can do through a period of time without constantly thinking about either wanting to smoke or thinking about smoking. I can only speak for myself but I can say that it seems to be exponential with time.  The first six months I stayed guarded and kept on this site or support groups with ups and downs.  After a year I felt that I went through all the seasons (all of them have certain triggers) and I could go days or weeks and not even think of cigarettes.  I've been told by older quitters that after 5 years or so they can't even remember themselves as once smokers anymore.  I think that it also can be very individual for each person. Some struggle much longer than others but for everyone it does get easier with time.  And time goes faster as you get further in your quit.  Hope that helps. Ron

Thank you Cristina and Samantha, funny I criticize mod tech sometimes, say I wish it was 1975 when life was simple, but tech is savin me thru this! I'm doin this riding the bus! Lol. I have a question, when are we considered quit? Non smokers? Is it life long or how does it work, never thought of that. Is it like alanon or aa where you need to stay focused or one day you just don't ever want to smoke?

Lance, hang in there and power through those thoughts.  Having a smoke is not going to make anything better.  Life tosses challenges at us all the time, but don't throw away the days you've worked so hard to get.  Stay strong, and be very proud of how far you've come already.

Hi Lance,

You've made a huge change in your life, this will take time to get used to and their will be moments of weakness. Use the program, stay occupied and you will get through it!

Stay strong!

I know it's the nicodemon, trying to lure you again. Look at your stats Lance:
Smoke-Free Days: 5
Cigarettes Not Smoked: 100
Amount Saved: $30.75
Life Gained:
Days: 0 Hrs: 21 Mins: 33 Seconds: 53
How would you give those away? I learned during these two weeks a very valuable lesson: whether I smoke or not, my problems will still be there. So why smoke? It's not going to make it better, it just hides the problems for a while... So when you have those moments - and I hear you on that loud and clear, cause I have mine too - just do something else - exercise, breath in/out, take a walk... say N.O.P.E.
You can do this.
Keep the quit
Cristina

Well when I start missing my son and he won't text me still, cause he's hurt, it get real hard, so I would just smoke, waiting at the bus I can smell it and today, it still smells bad, but tempting. I'm having a emotional downswing all of a sudden. Are these changes, withdrawls I'm going thru? Its tough.
