Jazz, you are such a blessing, you know that?

I was "snooping" around through the old posts and I found the "need a hand and a hug" one... Made me realize that the nicodemon in us will go the distance to make us feel defeated. That, if we allow it. So, whatever it takes, whether is "begging" for praise, seeking answers or just ranting/venting, I plan to keep the junkie out of my life!

Mr.Quitter - Thank you so much. You are right! But, sorry for asking, how did you get to be so smart, so young - that should be illegal, you know!

Hi cristinas. Yes, it's perfectly normal. I still shout my stats out to anyone who will listen! There's absolutely nothing wrong with asking for help, or celebrating your successes. You're doing awesome - keep up the great work! (hell, you'll be a semi-god before you know it!!)

Hi cristinas,

Some of the strongest people I have ever known could not quit this addiction. Some of them have been weakened as a result. The smartest move the cigarette companies ever made was convincing us that strong people smoke. By placing cigarettes in the hands of John Wayne, Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, etc people are going to view smoking this way.

You are seen as a strong person. Strong people understand their weaknesses and find ways to overcome them either by improving on them or uses other strengths to neutralize those weaknesses. By seeking help you are being stronger than you think. Believe me, no matter how strong you think you are others will see your smoking as a weakness. It's just the way it is. I smoked a pack a day and believe me it was enough that people saw me as a slave that was doomed to some horrible health issue. Those same people look at me a lot differently now and the people that do smoke know how hard it is to quit and respect that I did it. That is who I am and how I want to be seen. I overcame the one weakness that the strongest people couldn't.

All I'm saying is if one of your goals in life is to be seen as a strong women then get all the help you can to give you all the strength you need to overcome the one thing that will make others see you as weak. Keep up the great work.

If your wife never smoked, than it will be hard for her to comprehend why I do consider you and the other ones that were able to quit for so long, semi-gods... So, I don't know if that'll help you set any scores with her, buddy

But, in my books, you guys really did it! I'm getting there too. Slowly, slowly adding up those days on the board... Yay me!

PS - It's funny how much you can connect on this website with people that you don't even know. On Saturday when I got back from my ride, I SO wanted to get in touch with you all... With you Kaiser, to tell you about the ride, with Impalamania - saw quite a few old cars at a dinner we stopped - Hot Rods, with Marivi - I went with my daughter to check on some antique store...

WOW n semi-god you say. I'll have to make sure my wife knows this. LOL. You should be very proud of your self. I also find riding to be a form of mental relaxation. You are not losing your independance you are freeing your self from a terrable fate. You seem to be a strong willed woman so I know you will beat this.

I realize the need for help. But, being able to pick myself up on a regular basis (kicks in the ash included

), this new experience brings me a new approach to life I guess. And who knows, maybe this new approach, makes me a better person.

Thank you all for your input - and for putting up with my raves, rants and questions... Tells alot about myself, doesn't it... Always been a "Why" person...

I just left something out. This is the first support group I belong. I have always been a private person too. And I found this an extraordinary experience. I am sure I could not be a nonsmoker without the support of this wonderful group. A group of people persuing one goal:to stay smober. This is empowering. I didn't believe in support groups before. Now I am the opposite.

I have met wonderful people here that had made all the difference in my quit and in my new life as a nonsmoker!

So allow yourself to be encouraged,pamper and listened by this group. You are worth it and you also contribute to the wellbeing of the rest!

hi :) I can relate to what you are saying. Normally I am a private person, one who thinks they can handle most anything that comes my way. It's almost as though I feel weak if I have to ask for help. But as we well know...no man (or woman)is an island.

I have found that I can only find success in quitting smoking with help. Some people rely on patches, gum, etc. I quit cold turkey so I rely on human interaction for my help. As one person stated, posting here, reading others' trials and tribulations is what makes my quit more possible.

We are not weak. We are so strong in that we recognize the need for support.
