Hi SS
As Kaise sys, I have read that a slight depression is normal after quitting. Nicotine is a dopamine releaser, so it takes our brain sometime to be able to cover for this deficiency.
I am a positive person and I experienced a mild depression. I have never ever been depressed except for this time.
I took the sam-e supplement and hit the treadmill with a vengeance. Excercise is also a dopamine releaser.
But if you have a history of depression you should talk to your doctor.
Take care!!
And believe me, everything comes back to normlal after a few weeks!!!
The stressball is great too!!
And the ice water too!
Hugs
Marivi

seeking,

You seem to have a lot on your plate and its a great idea to continue to work with your doctor and pharmacist regarding medications.  The first couple of weeks of a quit can be very trying and it will take some getting used to, don't be discouraged we are here to help.  These feelings are normal for a quit, but do keep an eye on them and let your doctor know if it continues. if you would like to learn more about depression or panic you can go to our sister sites for information.  DepressionCenter.net ,  PanicCenter.net

Give yourself and hubby some space time for each other it will keep you from hurting one another emotionally and physically!

Always be ready for those craves, they can hit anytime, so carry a squeeze ball in your purse!

SS:
Some depression after stopping smoking is normal but you should definately talk to your DR.  We are allways here for you to talk to and will try to help where we can.  It seems that you have the determination this time to get it done.  I will be pulling for you.  There is another site associated with this one to help with depression and I think the mods will direct you there.  Keep reading posting and rewarding yourself each step of the way.

Hi everyone, I need to stick closer to these boards. This week has been rough.  I've switched between gum (which my husband thought suited me better - I don't chew gum (we're together 30 years).  Also, my husband has joined the bandwagon and has quit too.  This is both good and bad.  The last time we did it together, we almost *killed* each other.  We had some serious fights over silly things.  Our marriage has been great for a couple of years now.  I appreciate his support but he's in a bad mood at times too and coupled with my moods, I have to work extra hard to keep my emotions in check.

I went though 3 family deaths in a row in early 2008 due to cancer.  I went to the doctor who insisted on an anti-depressant.  It worked well initially.  When it stopped working as well I wanted to wean off and he thought I could use double the dose (as things were working out somewhat). I didn't know double the dose meant the highest dose for this anti-depressant.

I took Chantix in late December 2006 and it worked really well for me.  I have a doctors appt. to get the flu and pneumonia vaccines today.  I am going to ask if I can try  Chantix again.  In 2008 I tried the Chantix again but I was still on the anti-depressant and I thought I was going insane.  I started with a new doctor as this long-time older doctor was just not listening to me and more interested in handing me scripts for XYZ.  Now that the COPD is confirmed and since I am not on an anti-depressant, I think it will work better than the gum and the patch have.

I am also being hypnothized and plan to do accupuncture - I want to cover all bases as this is my last quit.

I don't know why I am feeling so depressed though.  This bothers me the most because everything is going well enough.  I did have therapy to deal with grief.  I'm also thinking of therapy just to talk to someone.
Thanks in advance.
SS
