Awareness, acceptance, and action is a slogan whose three steps are in the right order.  Awareness for me often leads to denial. At least for a little while, but when I'm ready to make changes, and I stop beating myself up and just accept that I'm an addict, or whatever, it becomes much easier for me to make positive changes--take action.
