These pictures are all over cigarettes and tobacco down here already and , like Canada, cover around 50%. Doesnt work on hardened addicts but it works on the young kids..YAY.  There is also a huge tax on tobacco in N.Z. as well . NOT MY PROBLEM ANYMORE!!!!

I think those regulations will help to reduce the newcomers to the smoking addiction.

Those health ads have been on packages for years in Canada. They cover 50 % of the total package area ( front & back ) It used to annoy me buying smokes with that health advertisement on it. It's not my problem now because I'm not buying it, Some people bought a sleeve to slide over it so they wouldn't have to look at it. Excellent.  breather

It may or may not influence someone's decision to buy that next pack of coffin nails!  I'd like to see the new regulations put into place sooner than three years, though!  Also, I think that they should televise some of the more graphic advertisements here in the US that I have been informed that other countries air!  Every little bit helps!

I did hear on one of the quit smoking commercials last night that free gum and patches are available in Oklahoma for those wanting to quit!!!  Woo Hoo for the Tobacco Settlement Funds!!!  Any Okies out there ready to quit???

Very interesting!  It is a similar concept to the ad against texting while driving that has been all over the news and the internet the past couple days.  Scare people.  It works.  The commentator said that anybody who watches the ad about texting will never text in a car again.  I have to agree.  After watching that ad, I will never look at my blackberry again in a car, not even when I am stopped at a light.  Thanks for sharing this PB!

Get Ready for Gruesome Cigarette Warnings

Graphic images of diseased body parts could become the norm on packaging.

By Jennifer Thomas, HealthDay Reporter
Graphic images of diseased body parts could become the norm on packaging.

THURSDAY, Aug. 27 (HealthDay News) - Would a gruesome picture of a cancer-ravaged mouth with rotting teeth make you think twice about buying a pack of cigarettes?

That's the goal of new federal regulations expected to go into effect within three years. The rules will require tobacco companies to cover at least half of the front and back of packages with graphicand possibly gruesomeimages illustrating the dangers of smoking.
