Is uphoria over rated ?

14 years ago 0 363 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Good topic Breather, I think most folks like themselves, you know, the ones you see smiling and laughing out loud in public. But I think for a certain percentage of the human race its a little more of a struggle, so they reach out, to try and feel and emulate what they think they see out in the world. So they to can have that so called care free life they see others living. Why is it only certain folks need that mind alteration to feel "right" with the universe? Or was the drug, in this case nicotine, so deceptive that we had all that was right and nicotine took it away from us, and now that we try to regain our lives as they were before nicotine, we feel lost because we forget what that life feels like, because its been so long ago. Euphoria is over rated, just look at what you have to do to feel it, drugs, gambling, and even risking your life. Here is what I wonder, is the base jumper any different from us? Maybe its a sign of the times, instead of smoking to feel that rush, they're jumping of bridges and cliffs.

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Breather, what a wonderful post!  For me personally, I drink less alcohol now since I don't smoke.  Since most cities don't allow smoking, bars are smoke free.  I hardly ever go to a bar.  And for those cities where smoking is still permitted, I don't want to smell like an ashtray.  I want to be high on life, not high on some substance.  I am walking more, taking time to smell the roses, and finding more things and places to explore.  I've conquered the smoking thing, now its getting back into physical shape and lose those pounds I've gained since I quit smoking.  In fact, I'm eating healthier this week in NYC.  I still have my bag of $2 Nuts 4 Nuts each night (320 calories), but breakfast, lunch, and dinner are much healthier this week!  I know the euphoria I've gained from not smoking I can apply to anything in my life.  I'm taking back what belongs to me!  I hope everybody else reading this thread does the same!

Great post, thank you for sharing this!

Members, what are your thoughts on this? How has your thoughts on uphoria changed since you became a non-smoker?

Breather, this is a really good post.  As I hang out in blah-ville, I realized that I am still very close to those days when I was chasing down false euphoria.  I can see why I am still in a dangerous time because the nicodemon is reminding me that that euphoria could be mine.  But it's a false promise as we all know.

Your post though, reminds me that this too shall pass, and that the gift of smobriety does keep getting better.  I just need to keep walking down the road a little further doing what I've been doing so far.  Hanging in there, not smoking, posting (sorry, I will post more!).

You're right.  We already had everything we needed the day we were born.  That is our true state of bliss......  I'm looking forward to having this monster away from me long enough that I can feel that again.

Thanks for the words of wisdom.  Beautiful.

I understand that every time we take a puff our brain chemistry is altered. People smoke , drink , and use drugs. They use any mood or mind altering substance to feel different or to be numb and not feel anything. Some prefer oblivion to the normal state. My question is this , why ? Do we not care about ourselves ? Do we not like ourselves ? The reason I entertain these questions is that for a few moments of pleasure the only thing we're guaranteed of is coming up empty. So is uphoria over rated ? Yes I think so. No one in their right mind would need anything else except what they were born with and already have. It seems I forgot to smoke today , guess I didn't need it. Nicotine's a drug by the way. Be empowered to take back what already belongs to you from those that would steal it from you. Something to think about anyway.  Better days ahead. breather
