Quitting in the Summer

14 years ago 0 955 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Jazz,

It can be pretty difficult to break those associations we have made with smoking. Often, we may not even think that we associate smoking with certain activities until the cravings approach and are too hard to ignore. Although you are hesitant about this summer, you have the experience of last summer and tools and tricks from SSC that will surely make this a fun and successful summer for you!

Marivi,

It is interesting learning about other members' experiences that have not been affected by certain smoking laws. Knowing that you were able to smoke inside means that you may have different habits and routines that may go unchanged during the summer months. Either way, it is great to hear that the upcoming months will not be triggers for you. Whatever you are doing, keep it up because you have got 152 smoke-free days behind you! Amazing!

    Cigarettes Not Smoked

Hi Sarah
I don't know. But because in Mexico smoking has been allowed inside. (Until recent month)s, it does not make a difference for me.
I think this does make a difference, because I was allowed to smoke inside during the winter months.
It still hasn't been a greater trigger for me!
Interesting post!
Marivi

Hi Sarah.  I felt pretty intimidated approaching last summer.  There were so many associations that I hadn't passed yet - BBQing, camping, fishing, lounging around, boating, bonfires, and yes, even biking, all with a smoke in hand. (pretty picture eh?)   It was iffy on a few occasions, but I pulled through.  I feel slightly hesitant going into this summer, but much better than last year.

Members,

Let's face it. Quitting smoking in the summer seems like a pretty daunting task. Smokers often associate patios, barbecues, and other outdoor events with smoking, making it even more difficult for non-smokers to keep their quit.

During these summer months, it is important to keep in mind the benefits of being smoke-free this summer! Think about all of the activities that you can you can do as a non-smoker. Bike rides, going for jogs, and even taking the kids to the park will all be more enjoyable as a non-smoker! In addition, most restaurants and bars now prohibit smoking, even on their outdoor patios. This will be helpful within your own quit as you will now be surrounded by non-smokers!

Members, what has your experience been with being smoke-free during the summer months. How has this been helpful in your quit? What was difficult about staying smoke-free in the summer?
